Like the lighting - looking to install something similar in the ceiling at my place in PA.

I'm looking at a South American 5 ply wood from Arauco. A friend (whose layout I designed) used it. He came up with a bracing for it that allows him (240 lbs) to stand on it without problem. The wood itself is impressive. Very sturdy and beautiful.

Where do you buy it? Cost?

I am looking at some lumberyards in Pittsburgh. I've been quoted $38.00 for 19/32" 4'x8' 5-ply sheet.

I do plan to stand on this layout.

Well, I have a 9' ceiling. I have to reach track lights in the ceiling. And I don't want to repeat the track work issues I experienced on the first Panhandle.

I don't know about dancing, maybe. Brass pole? Uh, no.

More than $1/sq foot.....decent wood just keeps costing more and more......

Just got back from the 2017 Steel Mill Modelers Meet and boy is my head spinning with new ideas!

Yeah, this could be bad.

First of all, I picked up a set of plans for an Open Hearth. It's huge. That got me thinking about reducing the size of the Staging Area and giving the steel mill about 22 square feet of additional space. Right now, I'm toying with the idea of eliminating the Blast Furnace altogether and replacing it with a more scale sized Open Hearth. I would model the inside as well; it wouldn't just be a 3-D backdrop building.

Nothing's been decided yet. Lots of ideas rattling around in my head.

I thought they were in Vermont? They did seem to develop more interest in money matters
so maybe they would move to Western PA for the right amount.
