Nice photo's. Thanks for sharing

Nice! I haven't been railfanning in years.

I did get stopped the other day by a CSX train coming into Portsmouth with a string of 3-bay hoppers of various designs.

CSX has changed the paint job over the years, I've always been fond of the blue/gray look:

I think I took this in St. Mary's or Folkston Georgia years ago when I was at the Kings Bay Submarine Base.

What were you doing at Kings Bay?
That was not a Sub Base when I was going to Sub Bases....next one up was Charleston.

Dave,

I was verifying maintenance procedures on electronics equipment. Never went on or even saw a boat, went into a building.

When I pulled up in the rental car to the main gate they asked me to pull over. They had a drug dog "inspect" the car. I suddenly realized that, being a rental car, there could be anything in it and I would have been held responsible, didn't like that at all. Fortunately the dog found nothing of interest.

Thought I'd share this...a bit too much forward speed don't ya think:

This is the building I was in:

Found these here on Google maps:

Except the 2nd photo showing a boat going down the (Elizabeth) river between Portsmouth and Norfolk (that's the Nauticus Naval Museum home of the battleship USS WISCONSIN in the background), I think all the others are Kings Bay.

I was a primary MK3 MOD6 Sperry SINS Tech. Followed by SPS6 radar, WLR6 ESM, LORAN A and C, SRN9 satellite navigation, IBM Selectrics...in fact, I still have an EIMB from that era, and all my IBM tools and manuals. Not much call for setting up and aligning a Selectric any more.
637 class SSN, Sea Horse, 669.
I could tell you stories about maneuvering watch and SPS6 radar.
