That Garrett is probably the best looking Garrett ever built and one of the nicest looking steamer of any type.

John's Garratt might be a good candidate for an MTH engine.

Garret's were predominantly used on light rail, usually narrower gauge track where a traditional locomotive's axle loading would cause serious problems. They offered the advantage of a powerful locomotive in a single package (aka no double heading) . As they were articulated by design they could handle tighter curves often found in narrow gauge rail lines. Not all Garrat's were narrow gauge and some were among the most power steam locomotives ever built.

That looks European. What is it?

Algerian Streamlined Garratt. European in the sense it was French built and licensed by Beyer Garratt.

The problem with modellers building Garratts is they usually have no clue as to engineering.
They hang the pivot point out in space, for ease of assembly, ease of curvature....and they don't realize you are hanging a full boiler on your hairball mount with no visible means of support.
I have a friend who builds them in #1 gauge, and does it right. Once you know how they work in that area, a model done right is a sight to behold.
Usually there is a bit more of a gap between boiler section and fuel/water/powered sections for uneven track and sharper curves, but if that one only ever saw high speed mainline with shallow curvatures, it's good.
There are reports of 2' gauge units that can go through curves at 70MPH...primarily because the boiler weight swings to the inside of the curve. The reports are not mine, and I have no easy way to verify.

Garratts had big boilers and fireboxes which gave plenty of steam.

Yes, Roy, it is MTH. Sorry it didn't have the elephant ears installed.

That MTH SNCF 141P is really sharp. Other than the spoked wheels on the lead/trailing trucks and the tender she would look right at home on a North American railroad.
