Weekend Photos - 2/24/17

Postby christopher2035 » Fri Feb 24, 2017 8:32 am

Happy Friday!

Made a lot of progress on that back corner last weekend! Nice to take some pics & have actual scenery :)
Started working on the road into town & the passenger platform area as well. This week, I plan to get the rest of the hillside finished along the back & do some ballasting

The layout looks great, Christopher. You've gotten more done in a week than I've achieved in a year...or more... I still haven't gotten around to replacing the dead power-brick resulting from the minor flood last Fall, and I'm really growing unhappy with the lighting over the layout. I need to look for some robust alternatives.

With this early Spring I fear layout progress will slip further.

Thanks Lucas!

Wayne - I used the Woodland Scenics rail paint pen. Makes a world of difference :)

Christopher, thank you for answering the question unasked. Now I have to get one.
But not direct from Woodland Scenics!

It costs $67 to Fedex a paint pen? Does Krusty the Clown personally deliver it?

Testors has a line of weathering markers that should be easier to find:

http://www.testors.com/product-catalog/ ... arker-sets

There are three sets of "weathering" colors including one set specific to railroad track weathering. I've seen them in Michaels and Hobby Lobby and I have used them on my projects:

Thank you, Chuck.

I am happy you like red rust for your rail. Here in the Sonoran desert rail rusts to a dark color like I see on Christopher's layout.
My local ACE hardware carries Woodland Scenics products. They always tell me, "If we don't have it, we can get it."
And there are lots of other choices if I want it delivered to my door. America is already great. :D

Chuck, what does your track use for a third rail?

The Testor's product is a three pack with three "shades" of rust. I picked the lighter one because of the "scale" effect. I also assume it's always a bright sunny day on the layout :-)

That's Atlas HO Code 83 flex track. The two rail is also Atlas O two rail flex. I like it better than anything else I can find that isn't hand laid. I haven't found any loco's or rolling stock that bottoms out on the ties either.

I wanted to use N scale for the third rail but it's too small to handle and I worried about the ampacity of track that small.
