Original units were based on engines from the late 50's/early 60's and they were much larger. New units use engines from corporate jets or even turbine based choppers. Once an engine has reached a certain number of hours of operation it can't be used for flight purposes. They can be recycled into equipment like this or for emergency power supplies.

The PC piece just above looks more like the model Lionel sold or catalogued a few years ago.

I had one and sold it. They never looked real to me, until I saw these photos. Kinda like dump cars, but those exist too.
