Yes. We need more ghost towns so that we can keep those nasty ethereal beings sequestered away from decent folk!

Nice selective cut and paste job, Rufus! Ever consider working for one of the tabloids?

All they have to do is call and write checks - I'm ready and the keyboard is warmed up!

Or the Mainstream Media?

Better, better pay more!

Did you find a use for the media cabinet?

Put it in a "discrete location" and started moving modeling supplies (and office supplies  ) into it last night - probably load it with parts and all to partially clear off a shelving unit that then will be able to accept the stack of kits that are hiding in a closet that needs to be emptied out. It will see use!

There are glimmers of possible improvements:

Would be interesting to see how these guys make their model work.

Lunch for a buck? I'm all in...

A small wooden bowl 1/2 filled with gruel......and you have to supply your own bowl. Spoons are optional as are tables and chairs....

Wurtland and South Shore are hardly in the heart of Appalachia, foothills at the most.
There should be many good reasons to put a plant there but I just can't see that it will help Appalachia.
The people in that area don't consider themselves to be part of that.
Kentucky becoming a "right to work" state was probably a large factor along with the transportation system.
If this really takes off CSX may need to make some major additions. I hope it is a go.
A dollar for lunch. Forever. Right.

Ok, you can add some road kill to your bowl of gruel.......

You probably get a decent lunch but no pension and no/minimal health-care. Then again, it's a job in the hell-hole known as Kentucky...

I take exception to that.

...and a whole bunch of crack-heads.

To be fair, that's not necessarily an exclusive trait for Kentucky...parts of West Virginia, southern Ohio, and eastern Tennessee all suffer from this opoid disaster (as do some other regions). Eastern Kentucky just seems to be the epicenter. There's a lot of despair in broad swaths of Appalachia, and no easy answers. :(

We now cut away from our on-going soap opera to bore you with model railroading developments.

At York this afternoon, East Coast Enterprises delivered a mock-up of one of the bridge extensions to me for review. I have it temporarily test-fitted in place.

Tell me what you think, please.

Even though I wasn't planning to buy anything, I picked up 2 PRR N5B cabin cars (one w/ trainphone) and a really nicely priced Proxxon table saw.

Healey,
What is your problem with this part of the country?

Looks sharp!
Once I built a railroad, I made it run,
Made it race against time.
Once I built a railroad, now it's done --
Brother, can you spare a dime?

In your estimation, George, how's the TCA Meet @ York looking?
