Assembly is like the KMT cars, with four screws located at the bottom of the cars.


And, like the KMT cars, the chassis is cast metal.

The chassis and trucks weigh in at 18.5 ounces.

The chassis has details molded in.


And the car negotiates O-27 curves and turnouts with ease.

Very nice work, Healey, however...
That right-side image is freaking me out. When I stare at the scene and examine its parts, I feel as if I am in the scene.
Of course, I am not. I am sitting in front of the monitor, looking at a photograph.

Thanks, Wayne. I'll post a few more pics when we're done fiddling with the cardboard set-up. Sarge gave me a bunch of O-gauge streetlamps to use, including a string of NOS lamps that plug in like tree lights. They are old, and I messed them up a bit when I pulled them out of their styrofoam packaging; some of the wiring had become stuck to the styro and I damaged it when I pulled them out. I'm gonna need to do a bit of repair/rewiring, I think, but they'll be great when I get them sorted. Also a pile of the old LifeLike street lamps. I remember getting a couple boxes of these years ago from a buddy that had a part-time job working at the LifeLike warehouse down in Baltimore. They used to sell them in packages marked "HO", but they are more O or S scale in size. They are great, and the bulbs screw in, so easily replaceable if they burn out.

One wonders why Lionel made rolling stock, specifically box cars, with diecast frames/floors. I'm thinking that extra weight does give it some improved tracking through turnouts and crossings. Nice looking car.

Was there a series of these cars with diecast frames? An eBay search would say yes, there were a number of variations.

It's fun playing with the old Nikon P5100, trying to get some interesting shots...almost as much fun as trying to wind the Bing clockwork for a precise station stop. Almost impossible, lol.

Just a couple days before Christmas, there's a bit of fresh snow. Folks gotta get where they're going.

I understand about the clockwork engine, but not the P5100—the camera has an outstanding feature, manual control. You can adjust it to get just what you want in the photo.

The waiting-for-the-train photo looks great!
