Error message uploading pictures

Postby Steamfan77 » Fri Jul 07, 2017 10:34 pm

Anyone else having trouble? I'm trying to upload some pictures to my build thread, but I get this message instead:

ERROR
Sorry, the board attachment quota has been reached.

It's dead. I posted that elsewhere. Too many folks just uploading photos and not linking from an external source.
Last time this happened (maybe last two times) the management purged the forums, we ended up with like two pages in each forum.
Word of advice...before someone who thinks they know better comes in...download any information you think you may like to have saved, because if it follows form, it won't be long.

Sure, the management can go buy big new servers...but likely that will not happen.

Yes and No. I noticed the Model Train Journal (MTJ) photo storage was running slower and slower so I switched to a popular photo-sharing and hosting service with amost infinit storage space for my photos. Here are a couple of photos to illustrate.

MTJ Photo Storage Memory Bank
Image
When they get full, the oldest one is purged (erased) to make room for new photos hosted by MTJ.

Here is one row in flicker's memory banks

Here is a view from the mezzanine

This kind of storage can store and host myriads upon myriads of photos.

You are getting the ERROR message because we have filled up MTJ's photo storage bank. There is no more room on MTJ for hosting photos until some of the MTJ memory sticks are wiped clean.

Thanks Dave and Wayne. I always resize my pictures so that they are a fraction of the original. 800x600

Wayne,

Thank you for the iconic and pictorial representations of the difference in sizes of physical data storage units.

I think,(therefore I must respond) that you may be confusing the operation of MTJ's phpBB3 software with Microsoft's WinDoSe swapfile.

The Forum Administrator(s), Moderator(s), "The team" (link at the bottom of each page), control in varying degrees what stays/goes when it is time for the bucket/cup/bowl/space/lot/ 'purge' to happen.
They decide frequency and necessity.

It appears that All, who are responsible for the "MTJ" THANK YOU!, contract/rent their physical data storage units from a 'server farm' similar to what Wayne has shown in his second and third Illustrations.
This is like any other 'off site' hosting service, allotted space is finite

Of course, I could be wrong...

For more info, refer to the FAQ (2nd 'blue'link at the top left corner of each page)
and,
https://www.phpbb.com/community/help/bb ... 983d98#f00

IMO, recommended periodic reading for ALL, 'newbies' and 'seasoned' posters alike.

Happened last time, too. Management tried valiantly to deleted silly threads or very old ones, took a lot of time, and eventually they just purged it.
So, they got us a little room and you filled it right back up, eh?
Oh, well.

Let's see what happens in the next week or two.

If you feel it's best, I'll go through every post by me and delete every photo, if that helps the group. Let me know. I can start this evening.

Are you using a photo hosting service, or are you putting your pics on the MTJ server?

No, I would never tell you that. I have yet to tell anybody to delete their photos.
All I have done is explain the information from the last purge.

I have no idea how big the storage is on MTJ...they never told me.

Just say it's 2TB for grins.

Just say each photo is 1MB for grins.

Figure out how many 1MB photos can be stored (with associated text) on said 1TB drive, then count the non-hosted photos on all MTJ forums, and you will see it isn't one person, it's the accumulation of everybody over the last 2-1/2 years, and there is no fixing it on our end.

Some of those folks aren't even HERE any more, and I have no idea if, as Roger asked once, quoting with the photos still in the quote compounds the issue.

Comments have been made over the last 2-1/2 years about this, but it still happens, and here we are.

Just let it run it's course.

Of course, there might just be a glitch in the software, and we have eleventy million terabytes left.

Not using any sort of "host," just taking photos from my computer's files and loading them onto MTJ.

OK. That's what I'll do until you and/or Wayne or MTJ advise me otherwise; then , I'll begin deleting. I've already refreshed my memory by having searched many of them out and am ready to act if that's best.

You will never be asked to delete any of your photos Murph. [Opinion]

Bill or ShyGuy will do it for all of us in a very efficient manner, i.e., press their [DELETE] button and "whoosh" all the posts (and associated photos, if any) they select for purging will be sucked into the black hole of the internet.

If they blow away all of the threads I won't have to go back and reload all the dead PhotoBucket links... :D
