Mystery Chassis -- Mystery Model

Postby R.K. Maroon » Tue Nov 28, 2023 7:22 pm

Does anybody have any idea who made this chassis, currently on eBay?

https://www.ebay.com/itm/115980586902

One distinctive feature of this chassis is a shallow area under the steam chest:

I am pretty sure I have seen other chassis with this feature, but I couldn't connect it with any manufacturer. In a complete coincidence, I put a recently acquired model on my workbench just yesterday that has the same feature:

To go one further, the chassis on this model actually looks like a match to the one on eBay:

This makes me think that the model must be pretty common, but I can't place it. Here is a side shot:

The tender is a Japanese import (Max Gray?) but the model looks like a doorstop-era US-build. The pilot truck looks like an Alexander but I can't make any other connection there. Anybody recognize either the manufacturer of the model and/or the chassis?

Frame casting and drivers - Scale Craft K4and SP P-10. Lead truck and trail truck All Nation. Cylinders - eBay = K4; yours are apparently P-10. Difference is the snifting valves. Tender might be USH USRA 0-8-0.
