Gary Schrader Passes

Postby E7 » Sat Nov 04, 2023 10:08 am

I was informed by Butch of the passing of Gary Schrader of San Jose, CA. If there was an O Scale expert's "EXPERT", I would have to think it was Gary. He did a VAST number of fixes to a multitude of O Scale models and documented those with verbal and photographic descriptions, which he provided to a LARGE E-mail list, gratis. He was receptive to questions and genuinely kind and patient to the likes of yours truly. He had a large layout based on the Southern Pacific and the Santa Fe, and to call it SPECTACULAR is an understatement. If their was ever an automatic for entry into the O Scale Hall of Fame, Gary is the one.

May the lights be green!
Rich

I agree with all you said Rich. He was a "class act" and will be missed greatly. We're losing a lot of the "old guard" in the last few years.

This is very sad news! Gary was a great person and advisor in O scale. I always made it a point to see his home layout at OSW. He always was patient with my questions. He will be missed! His passing is a huge loss to the O scale community.

I’m completely stunned, just saw this. Not sure what to say but thoughts and prayers to him and family.

Gary is one of the reasons I wanted to become a better modeler, he was a great mentor (he probably didn’t realize) and his essays helped thousands of folks. His projects were inspirations to build better models and an all around fantastic guy. I considered him one of the all time best O scalers in history.

I will really miss him and his email updates. Always made my day.

An incredible loss to our community.

Aaron

You're correct Aaron. Gary's loss leaves a huge hole in our community. :(
