I agree - better to drive from the middle axle.
Lobaugh and Scale Craft Pacifics, Lobaugh Challengers rear axle, and Lobaugh 0-6-0.

There is always Thomas?


FIRST thing I thought of when I saw this was Thomas.
Three axle span, in my experience, it max for longevity.
