I think I misssed a bargain yesterday - a PSC Harriman coach - factory painted, wqs at $150 with 29 minutes to go. I got distracted and didn't put it in my watch list.

Then I saw that the infamous Traiz had put a Lobaugh berk up for over $800, which makes me happy because I must have eight of those. What horrible photos . . .

Trainz. Ah, yes.

Have an engine being delivered today, that came from Trainz.

Ends up being a Williams standard gauge 9E.

Near as we can tell, they came with a repro Bild-A-Loco Lionel motor block.

Sold as running. HA!

SOMEBODY swapped the repro Bild-A-Loco block with a 29 or 30 NOT 9E, hand made (poorly) aluminum brackets to frame to mount the block, including hand-ground pins to mount lead and trail trucks.
Remember, I have photos!

Included in the block is a genuine pendulum reversing unit. Totally inoperative, of course.
And all original VINTAGE! RARE! COLLECTIBLE! natural rubber insulated wiring....except somebody else has half the insulation.

Shorted everywhere. Takes hours to get those pendulum units working...then re-wire...then clean all the gunk off the brushes...oh, and connect the headlights to directional.

Remember, I have photos!

5 or 6 hours later, runs fine, reverses, but it certainly ain't "correct" with wrong block.

Customer is going to have a chat with Trainz, I think. HE has copies of all the photos.

Not eBay, but I just discovered this in my bookmarks. I must have been busy three years ago, because there are items herein I assure you I would have bid on.
Steve must have had a giant warehouse somewhere in Texas to have gathered this many doorstops. He had me beat by several orders of magnitude.

What people buy is their business, but it seemed like there was NO plan, meaning it was just a totally RANDOM bunch of purchases. It would have been interesting to know what Steve (Lord rest his soul) was trying to accomplish. Maybe it was just a love affair with American railroads?

It is probably just a "collector mania." By "mania" I mean the Greek sort - more of an avocation than a mental aberration. I have it - I have models scattered everywhere, unviewed and unused. None in boxes, so I can look at them when I want, but way too many to make any rational sense.

Airplane and Mustang parts I will never ever use - duplicate sets of wrenches (I do use them) nuts and bolts now shoved into boxes while I order new ones because I cannot find a darn 5/16-28 to fit.

I was thinking of all this last night as I close in on finishing my new Daylight Atlantic - once finished and decalled it will go on a shelf somewhere to be gazed at once every other month. It is the joy of creating, and maybe the joy of "ownership" . . .

I think that may explain some of my purchases. A few kits that I built years ago and what I sometimes buy currently; for example, a CLW PRR H-10 and a double-stack container car with a Maersk container.
