EBay question

Postby bob turner » Wed Mar 03, 2021 9:30 pm

Just cruising through some overpriced Trainz offerings, and wanted to look at some cast Diesel sides - way, way out of my price range. The screen came up "Congratulations! Pay now!" I looked all over for an "absolutely not" button - and it doesn't show on "my eBay."

So, experts at eBay, what should I expect next? Is Trainz going to bill me?

I had that happen once and just ignored it.

Never had that happen and I'd scrub my computer from Spyware, Adware, and Malware if it did.

I do that regularly.

I do as well, but if something odd transpires, I do an extra scrubbing session...........and back up the more important files, too.

It's a marketing tool from eBay. It required no action.

Thank you. It is apparently still for sale, and it matches some stuff I have. But it is still doorstop junk, and not worth the current price.

But eBay thinks I bought it, and it is no longer listed. Tried to hit the eBay comment button; no response. Dropped Trainz a message, but so far nada.
Won't kill me if they force a purchase - $75 = chump change these days, and the item is easily worth half that to me. It is the principle . . .

Turns out that at about the same time eBay tried to tell me I bought it, Carey did actually buy it. The reason I had "tapped" on the photo was a hint that maybe there was a set of Jack Raymus E7b castings included, for which I would probably bid fifty bucks.

Turns out they were urethane copies. Urethane makes great models, but my hobby is metal and wood.

But the point is, eBay tried to tell me I bought them at almost exactly the time that Carey actually did buy them. And I still haven't managed to get eBay to stop asking me to pay for them.

Contact seller; ask him to cancel the sale if it shows up in his sold items.

This is an oddball situation. After 12 days. You would think. That the seller would send a cancellation notice. Maybe even a nasty email. " Pay up or else" If i'm not paid in 3 days. eBay automatically opens a non paying claim. After 3 days from that point. If i'm not paid. eBay cancels the sale and refunds seller fees to me.

Seller was Trainz. They were very polite; said they could not help me. EBay is difficult to contact from an iPad. Nobody can give me a bad review if it sold to someone else.

But suppose I had somehow been in the same situation with that $25,000 nickel-plated Challenger? Remember that one?

One thing that doesn't quite ring true here is that you need to make two key strokes to place a bid. One signals your intent, and the second is a confirmation. I can forgive one whoops, but not two!

Unless things have changed, Ebay can be reached by phone.

If you're stupid enough to be messing with crap you have zero intention of buying you deserve the results. Maybe you need to ditch the iPad. There's no genteel way to say it!
