Image Another specific piece of equipment for a specific job. A "Wire Car" for a wire train for working on overhead catenary. The car on the left was scratch built / kit bashed basically as a challenge to see if it could be done. It was. Hey, thats what the PRR did too when they built the prototypes. They took a standard XL work car and did the mods. The Pantagraph could be raised and lowered to provide ground. Thats the ground wire running down the side to the truck. Photos exist of these cars, and in fact of the four we could locate, all four had different window arrangements. Yeah right, the Standard railroad of the world.Image

I think I like the color shots better. You should consider a book.

big bad jim wrote:Anybody else having issues viewing PRRK4s's photos on this thread? I could see them before, but now all photos are replaced by an icon and the word "image". I can still see photos posted by other members like Bob or Jim. Just not those posted by PRRK4s. It's a fairly recent development.

You could try down loading a different browser. They can be problematic

Might also be your operating system, particularly if you're running something old

You could also reconfigure your PC to a prior date, but that would be a last resort!

They can be hateful machines!

Pacific Limited did some nice MOW cars. Don't know the exact time frame for colors, but the PRR also had MOW in yellow with black roof.

ImageImage Yep, the switch to chrome yellow from gray occured in the early 1950's. Prior to the gray the cars were a brighter freight car red color in earlier times. The XL MoW cars had specific duties. Some were used in work trains while others were assigned to wreck trains. These are resin HO cars built from Westerfield kits.

Bob, I never considered these photos in book form. I did however think about using them in a calendar. But even at bulk pricing to have them printed really wasn't worth it. The color photos do kind of grow on ya, huh?

Rufus, Are those Al Small cars still around for purchases? I remember seeing samples of them at one of the PRRT&HS Conventions, maybe 10 years or so ago.

Image Image Image Although not motive power or a specialty freight car, I thought I'd share photos of these. The PRR buildings were built by the late Richard Hall. Although predominately an O Scale scratch builder, these were built to 1/32 scale. I was able to acquire them from Richard's son after Rich's passing. I was overwhelmed by the looks of the buildings, and even the two 2 wheeled rail carts. I staged them for some photos. That is 3 Finger Willie as the crossing guard, relegated to that position after his accident ( after painting him I dropped him and when he hit the floor, he lost 2 fingers, )
