Just an H10s on a simple caboose hop that was caught strolling through.
Re: PRR Locomotives
1967 wasn't a very good year for GG1 4846. After being involved in a accident and found out it was too far damaged to be salvaged and placed back into its regular service, someone decided it was to be rebuilt into a Snow Blower unit for in and around the Wilmington shops, the home base of the GG1 fleet. The damaged half was discarded, the rest converted. Cab window plated over on one side, bay window added on the other side. Lasted I believe into the late 70's or early 80's and was later scraped.
Re: PRR Locomotives
Don't see that very often. I remember seeing a photoyears ago, probably in Trains magazine.
Very nice model.

Re: PRR Locomotives
Getting ready to order a bunch of "Scenic Express" PRR stone wall. I know that is HO wall, but got any hints/suggestions?
Shipping is $17 no matter whether I order a sample or a hundred dollars worth. Hoping to not make a $100 mistake.

I used the O scale size and am pleased with it. A friend mixed O and HO size on his layout to good effect.
I sorta thought the $17.00 was a pretty good deal for me. I was buying a variety and a good bit at a time when I was building my layout.

Re: PRR Locomotives
Bob, my wall is from Chooch. 3 sections interlocked together. I added the PRR railing on top. Some type of resin material. Comes in gray but I painted and weathered it. Not sure if they make O scale.
Re: PRR Locomotives
I just checked on ebay what that Scenic Express wall is. Actually looks pretty good too.

Re: PRR Locomotives
Thanks. Will place my order. I was based in PHL during 1979/80, with an apartment in the Northeast. I would drive down I-95 and admire that wall.
Re: PRR Locomotives
One of my early attempts, about 1980. Yeah, I was messing around doing this kinda stuff back then too. My dad once had an old Argus camera, I think it used 620 size film? He modified it into a pin hole lens to get depth of field. Those were the days you didnt know what you shot until the photos were picked up at the local drug store. My first simple diorama. Here a T1 is blasting through the scene. The smoke......well not photo shopped. That is actually a large piece of cotton, stretched, pulled and highlighted with black spray paint and stuck into the T1 stacks. A thin string tied to the top, (cant see it), and while the shutter was clicked, a tug on the string to give the smoke a little blur. Crude, but hey, no computer gimmicks back in those days. Some plain white cotton was stuck into the cylinders to represent steam escaping as well. Times sure have changed.
Re: PRR Locomotives
Someday I need to revisit this one and try again. It didnt capture what I was after. Somewhere between Chicago and Englewood there was a stretch of tracks where rivals PRR and New York Central ran side by side, more or less, before they split where the NYC headed northeast to follow the more level route to NY, and the PRR east into Indiana, Ohio and Pa. With trains from both railroads leaving Chicago at the same time there was always side by side action. I'm sure in those days one competing engineer wanted to be ahead of his competition when heading east. From J1 or J3 Hudsons vs K4s or 2 K4s Pacifics, Niagara vs T1 or S1 and then later the ubiquitous E7/E8 vs E7/E8 consists. Here we have an engineer and his K4s winning the race (of course) this day. Lots to do to get the setting a bit better.

Now that one really does look real. Makes me want to convert a Williams cab.
Re: PRR Locomotives
Pennsy's smallest class shifters, the A class. Here A5s #1587 heads off to do some shifting in tight quarters of the Philly industrial area. Bob, there's that famous wall yet again!
Re: PRR Locomotives
Streamlined K4s 3678 moving into position to power the outbound Jeffersonian.
