True unhappiness!
So some guy on NK got a PRR J1 painted in CBQ lettering. Someone else mentioned that it was not an accurate Burlington model, and posted photos of the Sunset version.
All pretty reasonable discussion, right? One guy quit the forum because everybody is so critical. Another demanded that rivet counters stay out of the tinplate forum. Several others displayed similar thin skin. Interesting to read - these guys don't take much to get derailed.

I've noticed there's always been a contingency of folks in our hobby (and other hobbies or pastimes like say WWII gamers) who could care less about prototype equipment, companies, actual histories et al. veritable illitertates in those regards
I recall recently listening to a self described "O-Scaler" at a dinner table at buddies daughter's wedding party, wax on about his consuming interest in his hobby and realized that he knew nothing about actual railroads, but quite a lot about current manufacturers products. ok.....
I've given up pointing out or commenting about their fictions, and just leave them be, thinking that if enough of them contribute to the overall participation/population of the market of buyers in our hobby, we'll be the better for it economically if not aesthetically or intellectually.
Yeah you go dude.....

Re: True unhappiness!
Plenty of room for folks who want Burlington decals on a J1, or Daylight colors on a GG1. My amazement was how intolerant a few folks were to comments about non-protoypical details. You'd think they were talking about the OP's mother!

The fruits of a muti-factioned scale, with people at both ends of the spectrum, neither of which understand the interests of the other.
Re: True unhappiness!
My usual comment-- Model railroading is (supposed to be) fun.

Yep and I had a good laugh.
I would like to have one of the Lionel bump-reverse trolley cars marked for AMTRAK.
Do they also become upset over domed passenger cars for roads that never had any.

Not seeking understanding. Just keeping yer yaps shut about my version vs. yours. Looking at you, OW5 2-railers.E7 wrote:The fruits of a muti-factioned scale, with people at both ends of the spectrum, neither of which understand the interests of the other.

If you keep putting Burlington decals on PRR J1's, expect some flak!

Indeed. There are some heresies up with which we will not put. Especially, most especially, PRR.E7 wrote:rex desilets wrote:Not seeking understanding. There are some not worthy of the PRR! Aren't they calling your name on the 3 rail board?

Nothing has really changed over on OGR,
I expect nothing and I’m still let down.
Re: True unhappiness!
Everyone knows rivet counters color inside the lines. To venture outside the lines is a big no-no. Artistic creativity will not be tolerated. With that said, I don’t care for Pennsy MOW cars in yellow. They’re not allowed on my pike. I colored outside the lines!
Now I’m happy.

That’s Lionel’s Crane and boom car with TMCC converted to operate on 2 rail track.
