Pretty close. Can't find the smokebox front, but another is en-route. One screw, two small sheet metal screws stuck horizontally under cab back.

Lead boiler. Frame extended 1/2" at rear. Diamond plate came off running boards, and the extensions at smokebox were Walther's Goo attached. Gonna fix that.

What appears to be an NW2 cab back. Go figure. Good way to hide the motor, I guess.
Was a UP engine. Pile of parts when I got it.
Have a tender...needs a ladder on the rear then paint.

Looking good.

Creative thing to do - might make for an all weather cab,

Thinking Walthers Polydrive, since a lot of that earlier Walthers stuff was some sort of lead alloy.

I was wondering about that as well - don't think I've ever seen a V/GMC/AN one in lead or alloy.

or with that cab..or 1/2" longer than the chassis. Odd for sure.

Might check "carey Locomotive Works" - they did some heavy, low melting point castings for the All Nation model. Impressive that they used lagging clamps.

Yeah, saw the lagging clamps. Or as former MR editor Terry Thompson wrote when reviewing a plastic shelled Half Zero steam loco "the manufacturer left the casting sprues in the shell" or something like that.

Piping, conduits....somebody spent some time.
The frame extension is interesting....plate on the side of the tailstock block to keep it out, then gusset plates both sides with probably NBW castings drilled through and maybe soldered.

The bottom cover is hogged way out, for a bigger gearbox or even a NWSL box, and totally unusable for mounting the Varney gear bridge.
I have the axle and gear. I ought to get a photo and throw it up...maybe somebody needs it.

Hmmm, I see that I used track!

I coulda carried it downstairs and put in on three rail for the photo. Or grabbed an old .172 double crossover, gone outside, and taken a photo (have a couple).

But:

Working on it out in my shop, I put the white board behind it so you wouldn't be confused by all the radio/battery #1 gauge locos.

Possible...Cary I am familiar with from Half 0. I called Bowser just now, guy who answered been there 25 years, never heard of Cary doing 0....but this was probably 50 or more years ago.

Without a smokebox front, dangling from my fish scale, 5.5 pounds.

Dave and I were discussing the boiler on his Ten-Wheeler, and he mentioned a company called Cary that made so HO castings at one time. I told him that I had some All Nation documentation somewhere in my files that described a Cary boiler for one of their line of steam locomotives. Dave asked me to dig it out and after a bit of searching I found it. Note the teasing with the "C Boiler" label in the main instructions and the use of the term Cary in a subassembly instruction.







This may not be the only documentation I have on the Cary boiler. If I find more I will post it up.

except.
Shows the parts for running boards (and instructions to install), but mine are cast integral.
