Thanks for this timely thread...I need to find some quality bits for installing guitar-string masts on these ship models:

I'm using this small hand-drill:

A decent size-chart to figure out what I need would be helpful. Might just order a few in the #70, #80, and #90 ranges to get acclimated.

I've never used anything smaller than a #77; I can't see well enough to tell which end is which at that size and I can barely get those or any finer into a pin vise now.

Thanks for that. I ordered a pack of #60 and #70...somewhere in that range should do the trick.

Bought some drills made by Dormer. Recommended by a couple of pro's who said these drills would last the rest of my life and cut like a cold wind. Not cheap, but I've learned through the years you get what you pay for and there is not substitute for quality. I've used the #80's for starting a hole and then went to the size I needed, generally in the #75 neighborhood.

Especially when it comes to tools! 99.9% of the time, cheap = JUNK.

Years ago I had a cheap set of bits that were tempered so poorly I was able to bend one into a 90 degree angle. I took it along to work and went into the bosses office and handed it to him and said: Do you have any more of these 90 degree bits? He got a look on his face like I'd tapped him with 5 pound ball peen hammer!
