Doorstops - Cast Brass, Bronze, Aluminum

Ground rules - non-binding, of course:
50% by weight cast, either sand or lost wax, steam, Diesel, rolling stock, electric. Obviously, repeated photos welcome, since that is all I have.

Let me start with one of my favorites - a group shot, all doorstop, all PRR:

GG1s are both bronze - maybe Collier and Alexander, but I have never been totally sure. I think I have two different bronze bodies and one aluminum. Don't hold me to it; I think there are five around here.
The E7 is Adams with cast sides and bats. I love these things, but they are 1/4' scale, a little small for a good doorstop. The lower one is Penn-Erie aluminum cast. Loco Works sold them for years. Nice models.

Hello Doorstop fans

Bob 5 ! GG1's west of Harrisburg ...with all that weight on the left coast you are not helping the San Andreas fault .

Today we have a pair of Baldwin bricks ... earlier side panels ? examples match the Wathers 1951 catalog ..where they mention handing the Baldwin line for 4 years ... 1948 Walthers catalog mentions the F units ..but shows a real train as an illustration . Within the Baldwin catalog ( courtesy of Jay ..thank you) a different (later?) window pattern and roof pattern is shown .

The A & B are gloriously heavy ...and would cause serious damage to anyone's foot if dropped upon it . Cutting edge technology 3 rail shoes and manual reverse still intact...( a minor miracle) . Truck frames are very outside 3rd rail friendly with built in mounting holes. B unit lacks it's shoes and a chain ...... one piece body casting and a separate end casting ... complete with rivets !! about 20 per side .. scaled up would be about the size of a hubcap on a real engine , delicate handrails that could be used to lift the engine with .
A bit to clean for standard New Haven use ... White , Orange and Black quickly became Black , Gray and rust.

Here we have a Pratt Pennsylvania 060 from 1939 ... short lived as Lionel also came out with their model of the 060 ... and took the market away .

Frank ? Pratt had a hobby shop in Richmond Hill (Queens) NYC and was big in O scale ... down the street from Fixen Hobbies also creative folks in the O scale & standard gauge world .

The little 060 with it's bronze boiler and tender really tip the scales ....advertised as 1/4" scale ..it's bigger than the Lionel version which is closer to 17/64ths than 1/4" ..comparing to the 700E .

This little engine lacks it's original boiler front ( if anyone out there has a spare I'm very interested) ...currently a Lionel boiler front fills the void ..but it is much too small ....I'll have to add outside 3rd rail sweeps ...and remove that roller ....

By "earlier side panesls", I am guessing you are referring the three-porthole F3 as opposed to the two-porthole F7 (there are exceptions to this rule in the prototype world but this is how the models were sold). Baldwin, like Atwater/GMC/All Nation, offered both. There maybe at least one other difference, in that the fans on the F3 are "high" and the fans on the F7 are "low". I don't have any photos of the Baldwin F7 (which is rare compared to the F3), so I don't know if the fans on the Baldwin F7 are indeed low. The All Nation F7 has low fans.

This one is a loner. I have two AB sets as well. Like most early diesels, these tend to have worn drives when you find them today. I need to survey mine to see how many good drives I can cobble together from the parts I have (which includes a few spares that I have picked up along the way).

Thank you for posting the Baldwin ...and pointing out the F3 and F7 differences ....sure enough All Nation 8th edition with Articulated running (or sitting ) on the Minirama layout on cover ...lists both the F3 and F7 with assorted marker lights and one or two headlights available ...

You want confusing.

I have read that F-3's had a filtering issue, and the A unit sides were all replaced with two portholes and louver for the center porthole shortly after delivery.
Yet, I find photos from 1966 of F-3 A units with three portholes.

I find photos of F-7's with tall fans. F-3's with short fans.

Add to that they kept changing the numbers around, and you want to throw your hands up.

Or you could be one of those HO guys who wrote for Mainline Modeler and assign phase numbers to all the little detail changes. Not me - any old F-7 is good enough for me. I do like the taller roof fan housings, and CLW etched grilles.

What really drives me nutzoid is an NP F unit......with one photo showing short stacks, and louvers, the next chicken wire and tall stacks..and the exact same loco number.
