Okay just to screw with Rufus T, here are some photos of the AMCO 1870's combine kit and the built coach that I believe came from the same manufacturer. Opinions are always welcome.
Trucks on the built model are Walther's Sierra.

I like them!

Hello Jay
Thank you for posting the nice photos of the American Modelcraft Co. car ..... did the kits come pre -painted as did the Robico cars ?
Any idea when the American Modelcraft kits were sold ? ... I just did a quick search 1939-46 in MR ...no mention of American Modelcraft Co. listed as an advertiser ....
Cheers Carey

Carey,
No, not really. The rather foggy memory banks tell me they became something else. I just can't remember what the new name was. The voices also tell me the name was fairly well known and produced many kits for a number of years.
I'll look around some of the model airplane sites. They have a lot of documentation on the early history of their hobby.
No, they were unpainted.

Re: Found a couple of old kits
Carey,
After a rather short investigation I believe I know the lineage of all things AMCO. It was an offshoot of the model airplane manufacturer Comet. This would explain the balsa construction. Apparently Comet decided to create AMCO to give customers the illusion they had more choices. It is said that many of the AMCO kits had the identical parts as the Comet kits. Having said that, I don't believe I've ever seen a Comet model railroad kit.
That is all,
Jay
