They are made from Strathmore board. That would be the main giveaway.

Which is also the big Caveat for those who can't personally inspect the cars. I've never owned a Fischer car, but would assume "condition"-"condition" and "condition" would have a huge bearing on a cars value. Several of Jim's brass items are listed as having water damage to the boxes and the Ogle Coal Tower box was thrown away, as it must have been close to hazardous waste. So IMHO, strathmore cars living in that same environment would demand a good "look-see" before bidding to make sure they were okay. Not sure if a strathmore car would be repairable if warped or water damaged.

I heard that he had a serious flood in the basement, and that some models wound up in a storage container in the driveway.

I just remembered there was an auction today, so I checked the results.

The bargains of the day are probably Lot 940: Pair of modified Precision Scale O scale brass troop kitchen and sleeper 16333 16331 that went for $90 and Lot 1200: 3 Precision Scale Co. 16333 Troop Kitchen cars CB&Q, Troop Car, unfinished that went for $130. Assuming these cars are in as good of condition as the pictures appear to show (a very big assumption!) those could be cleaned up and painted and their owner would have a set of nice brass troop cars for not much more than Atlas is charging for its replacement floors for the Weaver troop cars.

Another group of Precision troop cars, Lot 1199: Trio of custom painted Precision Scale Co. CB&Q / Burlington converted baggage mail cars went for $350.

The surprise of the day is probably Lot 1083: O scale brass two rail 2-8-2 Milwaukee Road L-3 steam locomotive, which went for $2400!

Another surprise might be Lot 1104: Overland Models O scale two rail brass N&W Powhatan Arrow five car passenger set, that went for $2800. (I remember seeing unpainted 5-car N&W sets for under $1000, but I may be thinking of cars by Sunset.)

Two Wasatch domes went for a lot! Lot 1135: Wasatch Model Company O scale brass two rail Union Pacific 7003 dome coach car sold for $1000
and Lot 1136: Wasatch Model Company O scale brass two rail Union Pacific 7000 dome coach car unpainted sold for $975. (Apparently a UP paint job is only worth $25... :D )

Prices for Overland F-units were all over the place. One pair of F3s still factory wrapped, Lot 1067: Overland Models O scale two rail brass EMD F-3 A-B diesel locomotive pair, went for $375.... while a single F2/F3 described as with moderate tarnish and cab interior outside of the model, Lot 1285: Overland Models O scale two rail brass OMI-0287 EMD F2/F3 diesel locomotive A unit, sold for $875.

Fischer cars were all over the price. Several sold for more than did some of the Pecos Brass cars, which surprised me. I think the biggest difference between realized price ($1750) and estimate ($3500 - $5500) was Lot 1235: Joe Fischer O scale two rail ten car heavy weight Southern Cresecent Limited set. It's a ten car set, so it sold for $175/car.

Thanks Chris. That is a lot of work, watching, compiling, and posting. Much appreciated.

I won Lot 1067 and can tell you I was stunned when I did. I expected the bidding to go much higher for all the Overland F unit sets.

The KEY UP FEF-3 went for only 1200.00! Very surprised at that one.

The Overland BL-2 units drew a lot of interest.

Can somebody explain the MLW L-3 for 2400! Was that custom built? Don't recall seeing a importer name.

The Milwaukee Road L3 Mikado is a Bill Lenoir model.

I suspect those two cars are these new buy-it-now ebay listings, for $130/each: MODIFIED-PRECISION-O-SCALE-BRASS-2-RAIL-16331-TROOP-SLEEPER-NO-PAINT-550326 and MODIFIED PRECISION O SCALE BRASS 2 RAIL 16333 TROOP KITCHEN CAR NO PAINT 550327

The ebay seller, 108spopular, took much nicer photographs than Stout did. I especially like 108spopular's close-up photos of the $1,395.00 price tags on the boxes...
