Exacta City of Denver ... has anyone seen one ?

Postby Carey Williams » Tue Apr 04, 2017 10:42 pm

Hello Doorstops connoisseurs..

Model Railroading May 1946 Exacta ad "City of Denver " in "heavy solid lustrous copper " ....... does this exist? Has anyone seen one ? Photos please .
Promoted as 90% accurate... that is plenty fine for government work .

Cheers Carey

I don't think there is "one" to see in the sense of a model. Take note that ad says molded copper car SIDES. Probably some of these parts laying around somewhere, but they wouldn't be all that exciting to look at.

I'm more intrigued by Exacta being the successor to Baker-Scott Railway Model Sides - never heard of them!

Patent pending - wonder it that was ever issued........and were they sued by MTH?

Older neighborhood. Doesn't appear to be former industrial....so this was out of the basement....interesting.

Carey - Neat post, keep it up. They probably made very few of the City of Denver. While not quite a C of D, the pic is of an item that arrived yesterday evening courtesy of UPS ,that is Unbelievably Poor Substituteforashipper, in a 62 pound box. There were a few other things in the box.

It is apparently the front panel for a passenger car. The writing at the bottom says FRONT FLAT, 9'-9 5/8", "EXACTA", PAT PEND, MODEL NO.402.

I'm the only kid on my block to have one; actually I'm the only kid on my block as there are only 3 houses.

Dave - Way to go on the pic. The earliest MR ad I can find is in the April '46 issue (it shows that address). In the October "48 issue on page 844 is an ad for Central Lines Mfg. Co. Manufacturers of "Exacta" Scale Models. it says "WE have, during the month of July, moved our entire factory to San Francisco,...". They were at 770 Mission St. in San Francisco, Ca. A pic of that location please.

I can't always find a way to "keep up with you guys", but it fun trying.

Well, dang, now I can't find the pic on the 'puter. When my wife gets home I'll post again with the pic. The item is a 2x2 1/2 inch sheet of metal with the appropriate details.

Hello World and those who think 90% correct is just fine.

A year later Exacta is south in SF being made by Central Lines Mfg Co. ..no mention of the loved City of Denver ... now on the scrap line ..replaced by flashy shovel nose E's . Full line of cars ... smooth , ribbed, standard ..even a subway car ..all 90% accurate and in "Lusterous Molded Copper" ..who could resist?....Now someone has to have examples of these "Lusterous" gleaming cars in their collection .... ... photos please .
E's in less than lustful Bronze or Aluminum.

Get your orders in today .
Cheers Carey

Ok ... the image is upright in my computer ...but when it pops up on the preview it's side ways ... can I assume it's me ? ..or perhaps this is good neck stretching exercise..perhaps alternate one left one right ? ... clues ? suggestions on finding north ?

I have two Exacta E-7s. They differ from Adams only in that they were purchased directly from Exacta by Milt Sorensen, who sold them to me. He told me they were the only two. I have another identical pair - brass A, aluminum B.

I also have a heavyweight coach/ combine, not shown on the above catalog.
