Re: Did I do my Pacifics?
Bob - Nice looking Pacific as all your stuff is, but about that Adams tender, when you replace it I would like to buy it if it is declared surplus, here is what one looks like without the wrapper, did you make the wrapper?
Carey - Here is an ad that is on the back cover of the October 1934 Model Railroader, since the ad says they were at the World's Fair, it seems likely that they were made in 1933, also here are pics of mine - it needs a little help, and the box it was in when I got it, as I have a similar box (that I can't find) from a different source that came to me with a Scale Craft passenger car in it with similar writing on it - that causes me to think that they MAY be original boxes, anybody have a similar box or any ideas?
Steve

Other than the hand written ScaleCraft on the end, those are the markings from the factory for the kit sections.
K500/H4 Section 4:
"Section 4 completes the locomotive itself and consists of all the superstructure detail, such as the running boards, smokebox front, the sand dome and steam domes, stack, headlight, etc., with all the necessary screws and pins, plus a superstructure drawing and a set of assembly instructions."
There were five sections.

The only "wrapper" I have ever seen is the Lobaugh. The Adams castings are slightly bigger than Lobaugh. There is a chance that you could bribe me to put sides on your castings. I rarely sell anything.

Or maybe better lighting?

Re: Did I do my Pacifics?
I discovered back in the olden days that density was determined by the developer, not the camera or lighting. The setup is for a picnic on a summer day, not a black locomotive on a light background.
You just go to edit and adjust brightness until the black blob turns into a locomotive.

Thanks Bob, Dave, and Dave for your comments. My computer skills are from the 15th century, but doing these posts is forcing me to learn and your comments help. Bob, I am anxious to bribe you, give me some hints as to the type of bribe that might be effective. I should have said sides rather than wrapper. I'm confident that the sides on your car were not made by Adams, did you make them?

Your camera itself should have a menu with lighting source and level settings. Mine has settings that I have yet to really understand, and see little perceptible use of other than play value.

Re: Did I do my Pacifics?
I always thought that to be true. A very sharp copilot and camera enthusiast listened to my tale of woe and said: "all the information is on that negative. Do not let the developer run his machine in auto."
He was correct. I trained a technician to take the density out of auto, and look for detail in the black part of the print. We wound up with density settings of four or three. Then, and only then, i could supply publishable prints.
Now the same thing is trivial. On my computer it is called "photo editor" or something. It is even on the iPad, and is part of the basic stuff that comes with the initial software. "Crop" and " brightness" are the two you want.

Re: Did I do my Pacifics?
I just grabbed Steve's image, hit "photo edit" at the top of my image storage page, and cropped and brightened. My computer also has "Aviary" which does more, but it is kind of abstruse - I have yet to figure out how to save my altered image, although I have done so about six times by accident, while trying various keystrokes and mouse clicks. Suffice to say I hate Aviary, and long for my old image processing that came with Microsoft 3 or something. I think this is Microsoft 10, and it is very unfriendly.

Here is my Alexander/scratch K4:
As I recall, the main frame is a butchered Alexander, the boiler is a Scale Craft that somebody's spouse took a hammer to (I made a mandrel and pretended I was an auto body specialist), and a USH tender. I should tell you again that I have since re-gauged the track on my photo display setup.

Re: Did I do my Pacifics?
Lots. Right now I find that, even with the flu totally gone, I am not good for more than four hours of flying/ wrench turning. My Decathlon annual inspection is draggong - today I check the mags and rotate a tire, and then head for the couch. The couch! In the olden days it would be to the train table while watching the News Hour.
Actually, I did put a stack shroud on the last Challenger last night, while watching the latest political outrage. Not saying it is perfct . . . I think I decided to skip the boiler steps and lag clamps on this one - too lazy.

Oh - and the Greek says our good operating system was Microsoft XP, and that Microsoft 7 was "iffy", and that Microsoft 10 is widely despised. I am just along for the ride.
Photobucket did it too, and the new iPad operating system just sucks big time. Delighted that you guys steered me around Photobucket. I wonder if this kind of photo posting works on NK?
Opinion.
