So Roger, when are you going to start weathering your stuff?

Remember I'm a 3 railer. :D .
My comment was only because I realize how accurate the scale modelers can be.
Personally I like them clean.

Well, actually, so do I. I'll take all the realism I can get, but I draw the line at ruining a nice paint job, or smashing up a model to make it look used. Just me.

I used to feel the same way, early on, because I was afraid of affecting the resale value, but some time ago I realized this fear of modifying a factory paint job was interfering with my enjoyment of the hobby. I much prefer a nicely weathered locomotive than a stock, shiny, perfect paint job. That's not the way they looked in operation except for a very few days or weeks.

Do you know if he does? I thought that the dirt on a car was the protective layer that preserved the nice paint underneath,

As Roger stated, you can like both (and I guess I do) or have your preference. My preferred paint job is weathered since I'm trying to make a scale version of the real thing. But, we've all seen some weathering jobs that were hideous, which is a big take-away on value for me.

Butch, I'm not knocking anyone here. Just started out kidding Roger a bit because I knew what his response would be, and he would take it well. It's all a matter of preference, mine being not to weather, so that's "right" for me, but what others do is THEIR business!

If you weather any loco or piece of rolling stock it will be out of place until almost all have been weathered.
Buildings weathered or not can be mixed and not seem to be out of place. Just my unasked for opinion. :D :D

So after some serious home remodeling, my Benson car project and the holidays, I finally got more GSL steam locomotives in the repair queue from the RMCA club, so here's my update.....but first a word from my sponsor (the Clubs)-
O-Scale South is here next weekend in Atlanta , so if you're in the "neighborhood" come on down Jan 13th we'd love to see anyone of you guys here, we'll have dealer tables, layout tours, clinics, the whole Enchilada. .......Back to our regularly scheduled program...............

Here is #902, GSL's premier passenger steam power; I am told it's a CLW 4-8-4 which Turner tells us is most approximately close to one of those S-2 CMStP&P 4-8-4's, which I believe is correct if not an exact match for appliance locations and lacking that brutally cool looking cast drop coupler pilot.
Image
Nicely built for I believe the late Cliff Cole and a solid runner for decades albeit now long in the tooth and needing some help. Firstly the pony trucks needing a bolster spring and possibly some wheel gauge adjustments. touch up painting and some cleaning in general . I will update this with the results.
It runs ok, but has some gremlins in it's harness between the tender and locomotive,
