I could swear it was here - and our photo resolution is better than NK's.

And now it is here, in stunning MTJ resolution!

I was kind of surprised the review was posted here either. I caught his review over on OGR. His photography and review of the model was superb and convinced me to purchase one though I have no idea what I'll run it with!!!

Yeah - they look quite good, although the dome appears to have ever so slightly wide window frames. If I did plastic, I would have a train of these.

Oopps... :?

I was so caught up in the whole think I forgot to post over here.. 8)

Thanks for enjoying it!

California "Zephyr" Dreamin'

I really like these cars; they are fantastic. Considering these guys are around $145 a car, wow, simply wow. I am still in love with brass especially the Key CZ coming this year! I just can't afford the whole train.

DETAIL PHOTOS

Detail shots show a decent amount of under-body detail on par with most brass imports. There are some pretty glaring errors in the diaphragm area but overall the model is pretty correct.

LIGHTING
Image
Image
The Lighting system is ingenious, track power or AAA battery power. Installation is fairly straightforward using a small Phillips screw-driver.
Image
Image
Lit the cars look very good, serious detailing is needed to complete the interiors.

FINISH
Image
Image
Compared to a nickle plated brass imports the finish is bluish and does not match well. By itself the cars look beautiful and posses enough of the right color to look like stainless steel.

BUDD STANDARD DOME

The 1:1 Prototype
Image
Compared to the Midland Reproductions dome the car is very faithful in reproducing the complex structure of the ends. Compared to the Midland Reproductions dome the car is very faithful in reproducing the complex structure of the ends. The dome side windows are a little small or the framing is a too thick. This is the only area of the model that really shows its HO scale BLI heritage in the tooling other than the heavy stirrups.

LAYOUT PHOTOS

Just like the prototype, I recreated the Exposition Flyer's consist during 1947-1948 adding cars to the consist as they were delivered from Budd.

In conclusion I think the cars are a profound move forward in the industry. O scale needs this kind of product. Ready to run O scale passenger cars will never be the same again. Atlas expects to offer the remaining cars in the coming year for a complete typical 1947-1960 consist.

Baggage
Dome Coach
Dome Coach
Conductors Office/Window Coach
Buffet/Dorm Dome
48 Seat Diner
14 Section Sleeper
10/6 Sleeper
10/6 Sleeper
10/5 Sleeper
Lounge/Sleeper Observation

Perhaps in time they will offer the modified 14 Sec. Sleeper as a coach and the Slumbercoach cars.

Sorry GUYS.... :?

And there is the problem with the HO scale origins of the G.O.D. and tooling borrowed from Broadway Limited Inc. (BLI). :?

At least Atlas O listened to us and changed the dome ends and some other small details!

Thanks for posting those here, Eric. Note how much better they look with our resolution?

These really are a quantum leap forward for O Scale. I did not believe anybody would ever get those black outlines on the windows included in a reasonably priced car. I hope they can go one step further with those Venetian blinds.

Lighting is spectacular - and I even approve of the trucks! Now my fleet of extrusions is obsolete.
