Not entirely true for my layout.

I grew tired of tearing out layouts and dropping 95% into a dumpster. Decided to do otherwise.

All of the structures on my layout while fully sceniced are also designed to be completely removable.

Sounds like the same thing our 3 rail friend Murph does. A pretty smart practice, I think!

If you look at some of my structure articles in OST, you will note that I am usually mounting them on a piece of 1/16" Masonite rough side up cut to fit a specific space on my layout. After they are fully sceniced, then they are placed and loose scenery is used to blend them into place.

I'll have to look for a "suitable" structure that might be adapted for this purpose. I'm just now wrapping up a stone IOOF building and have another building in the queue behind that to also wrap up. Hoping to get both done to take to the Nat'l in 3 weeks.

I'm running out to buy some brass stock to cut new pins for assembly of the Multiplex layout now ... the nature of sectional track is just snap it together ... Lionel learned that sectional track was going to be the saving grace of the toy train world in late 1906 with the introduction of their standard gauge which had no standard. ( they actually stole the idea from Marklin with their 1901/1902 tubular 3 rail 1 gauge track..but don't let it out) . Prior the American electric train manufactures were using strip rail inserted into wood ties ... neat, wonderful , and great but not user friendly for kids or adults who also have issues with Ikea instructions.

End of this month pick up the outside 3rd rail "layout" ...or current pile of stuff .."former layout" .... with the hopes to salvage two parallel loops for the perimeter of the basement as a shelf layout ... with the Multiplex layout in the center .

Goal is to have a few loops to run trains on ..within 12 months ... life is short ... make it happen .

My "loop type" running was described to me at the March show by an avid time table holding, scale speed running, hogger as a "circle burner" ....
I can live with that ... somewhere between time table holding and the detonator holding style of Gomez Adams ..there is a nice middle ground... of listening to the hypnotic rhythm of the clicky clack of the RR track ... and the desire to shrink down and climb aboard and escape from reality for awhile.

Heaven only knows what this pile looked like when it was "one" and the flow of electricity was pulsing through that outside 3rd rail .

A number of years ago, I attended an auction of various household items. One item consisted of sections of two-rail 0 gauge track, on ballasted bases, with scale rails, and an outside third rail. I bought them out of general curiosity, having never seen anything like them, until now, in this thread. I will try to get one of the smart people in my house to post a photo.

I thought I'd given everything away but last night I found another stash. In said stash was a catalog from M.M.C dated 1938. Cool to look through. They even offered a double slip.

Didn't post that there were also Baldwin Locomotive Works and Wentzco catalogs. Guess I should look to see what else is in that particular pile.

I'd like to see a scan of he Wentzco Catalog. I have a NIB FT set from Wentzco, and have a set we think might be except there are roof differences....maybe there were early and late roofs.

Sure, my days of just giving stuff away are quickly coming to a close. I grow weary of boxing stuff up and sending stuff for free and then not even getting a thank you.
