Small pickup trucks are very handy and when they're needed it's rally nice to have it. We have a 2017 Ridgeline with 22K+ on it and wife has a 2019 SQ5 with 32K+, so I'm hopefully we're done buying cars. I had a Ranger in the mid 90's and a couple F-150's in the early 2000's and then got a Frontier that I drove until the Ridgeline. The Ridgeline is the best of the small trucks IMHO and rides like a Pilot.....I guess it should, as it's built on the Pilot platform.

Now we really have gotten off topic from bronze diesels to cars. In a way they are related; bronze locos hold up like classic cars.

Bob, I am very envious of your past experience with the Mustang fastback. That was one great looking car. Very much of a 60s style car. The Ford I-6 was a good engine as well. I don’t blame you for missing it. “…so all I operate is ancient machinery, “ that statement characterizes your most of your O scale pieces as well. The consistency is remarkable.

Pacific Limited, you make a good point about the extortion of owning modern cars. Expensive to buy then to maintain. I couldn’t agree more.

I used to tell the kids that worked from me that cars were a burden and to do everything possible to not own one; live near commuter rail and bus routes, and rent one when really needed.
The average train of thought isn’t big enough to carry a full sized opinion on any subject.

To get this thread back on topic, I am going to continue a series of posts started on page one, which is to show the four-axle doorstop diesels that I purchased in the order that they arrived, with each model type shown once. The last model posted (on page 5) was the Icken version of the GE-IR B6-5 oil-electric boxcab. This model was purchased in late 2014. By chance the next model acquired, in Jan 2015, was a Walthers version of the same GE-IR B6-5. I have acquired several since then, with this Rock Island version being the nicest:

Walthers produced three different versions of this model from 1936 up to the war. The unit shown here is an example of the first version. The body shell on this version is all sheet brass -- the second and third version had cast ends and roof. The drives are different for all three units as well. Having said all that, at 30 mph they all look pretty much the same.

One last note: The Rock Island did indeed have one oil-electric boxcab, road number 10000. It was a completely different, much larger, one-of-a-kind unit. The historical liberty taken with this model does not keep it out of revenue service. I will look to see if I have video.

Mine has four Escap motors driving four gearboxes - Ajin, I think. Rivets are mine, the rest appears to be Walthers. Handrails some day . . .
