Perhaps his standards are a bit looser than yours.
Not "perhaps".
He's just lucky things were not reversed. If Pennsy lettering were put on the wrong model the SPFs would have buried him and Lionel. He would not have time to pick up his ball and leave.

Absolutely. Some things are sacred and apostasy must be ruthlessly crushed. That includes painting a perfectly good PRR loco in another road's colors.Chris Rock wrote:E7 wrote:Chris Rock wrote:Fantasy on one hand and "close" just don't match up.

Re: True unhappiness!
to set things correct, the model engine was a C&O class T-1. it was not a Pennsy J.
not that that changes anything as its still a fantasy paint scheme.

I think I see what HW was saying. The base model seems to be a PRR J-1, with typical Lionel "specific prototype" idiocy of different cab, tender, paint and lettering.
They have never been shy of plastering one road name or another on the one base model they spent any time with.
But they are all based (general idea) on the SF unit, right? Hence the name?
Doesn't bother me one way or t'other.

Nor I!
Maybe they should change the name to Lyinel Corp. Why anyone would spend 5 seconds worrying about such drivel makes me laugh. Maybe we can tackle the girls train in pink and pastels next!

Re: True unhappiness!
Early on in my HiRail experience, my buddy and I did all we could to generate NP locomotives. Diseasemals were easy. Steam was dang near impossible.
This is 1:52 scale Lie In He**.
We even bought the new Northern almost 30 years ago (maybe 25) when they first came out. Not only ran like pigs, but nothing we could do could make it an NP "A" class.
We both gave up, and "selective compression"ed 675 Lionel 2-6-2's into W-3 Mikados. He did some stuff to make Q Pacifics.
Then he found MTH NYC baby Hudsons.....with a specific Lionel tender, some details....and a nice Q.
I still have some of the leftover bits from those excursions.
Of course, my deal was the Walthers wood NYC caboose...with trucks five bucks assembled (usually poorly) at train shows.....cut them down in length, Lionel wood style cupolas, shift the ladders, either Lionel talgos or scale trucks and couplers, and you had the short NP wood cabooses.
Still have a couple of new cupolas still wrapped up for the next time I decide I need to do another...and a box full of cabooses.
How do we end up with so many cabooses, anyway?

What it is, is a TOY locomotive, and some can't seem to comprehend that fact.

I expect nothing and I’m still let down.
