Re: HERESY
I do have a 3-rail 0-6-0.
Lots of O Scale drop bottoms - the one I lust for is a G-50-9 (or 10.11, 12). At the end, SP had more of these than the more commonly modeled straight-sided gons. Photos next week?
Not aware of a Max Gray G-50-9, but was aware of the plastic kit. I suppose it could be converted to brass for less than the cost of the plastic - which means that Division Point or Pacific Limited would be the only economical (choke) choice?
I will wait for Sunset to do them. Not impossible - even the shelf coupler guy won out in the end!

The only reason why there is not more here is because few here actually do any model building.[/quote]
I suppose some here are aging out of the hobby, and it has becomes easier to type words than to build models.
However I still prefer glue and paint stains on my ratty workshop shirt. Go build something.

I've got 4 freight cars in progress and a brass freight motor on my bench.....and as I finish them, I do post some here.
Some people have no idea what they are doing, and a lot of them are really good at it.

"BE ONE INCH TALL WITH ULRICH" I remember their ads in the magazines and wished at that time that they did O also.I have two and although they look the same, there are some minor differences between them (one is slightly wider than the other):

PSC did an SP drop bottom gon. Might have been a second road name, but I can't recall.
MG did 2 versions and there were others as well as the recent kit from Glacier Park.
It would be nice to have something like the Brown Book of Locomotives but exclusively O Scale. I'm NOT just talking brass...plastic, the whole 9 yards. A monumental task. Feebay would be a great depository of info. Dan Glasure purchased records from them when he did his brass guide so they have access to some of that stuff, at least.

That would be ok with me. It would have to be better than Keith’s history book for me to buy it. Happy to allow my photos to be used. I bet Maroon would be interested in helping.

You're so hot to trot on building stuff, build us a data base.

Building it is easy although that's really not one of my immediate IT skill sets; might have to hire a few non-human primates.
Acquiring the data is something else entirely and that's the hard part - all yours.
My professional rates start at $200/h; 1/2 day in advance; all expenses. I'll send you a contract.

If Dan is the person in/near Ocala, FL, I got two copies handed one to me and one to my friend when I stopped by to pay for and pick up an ebay purchase.

Same guy. Dan is a bit HO oriented.

As boring as some modern freight trains are I'd hesitate to call it a win. Be interesting to see what his next obsession will be.

Re: HERESY
He apparently just got hung up on those two.
Interestingly, I find myself doing the same thing - witness the Erie-built, which jim R. And I are about to finish. I think my first obsession was anything Lobaugh, combined with that MM-2. I sure fixed that. Then it was pining over a lack of Budd cars, even though Ed Alexander had done them. Haynes and K-Line fixed that. Then lusting after the elusive Lobaugh 1941 Cab Forward - I even offered a reward! A guy collected my reward and sent a mess composed of a couple Hines Lines Mikes. He refunded my purchase price, but kept the reward money.
No- I have zero interest in shelf couplers or really anything past about 1960, but I can see how these things take root.
Before I got too far out of it, I would send Scott a couple grand to get started. I am not yet at that stage of desperation. To see the gons of which I speak, watch my HO thread tomorrow.
Spell check changes gons to goons!
