Interesting 2040 Predictions

Postby up148 » Thu May 06, 2021 11:17 am

2040 Interesting Future

This is some interesting predictions. Kind of scary though

Many of us won’t be around to see all these changes in the future, but some of you or your children will be The 2040’s will be totally different from today’s world if some or all of these come true..

A good way to start the new year! What's coming in our near future?

1: Auto repair shops will disappear..

2: A gas/diesel engine has 20,000 individual parts... An electrical motor has 20... Electric cars are sold with lifetime guarantees and are repaired only by dealers... It takes only 10 minutes to remove and replace an electric motor...

3: Faulty electric motors are NOT repaired in the dealership but are sent to a regional repair shop that repairs them with ROBOTS...

4: Your electric motor malfunction light goes on ... so you drive up to what looks like a car wash, and your car is towed through while you have a cup of coffee... Then your car comes out on the other side with a new electric motor or component...

5: Gas stations will go away...

6: Street corners will have meters that dispense electricity... Companies will install electrical recharging stations ... in fact, they've already started in the developed world...

7: Smart major auto manufacturers have already designated money to start building new plants that build ONLY electric cars..

8: The "Coal Industries" will go away... Gasoline/oil companies will go away... Drilling for oil will stop... So say goodbye to OPEC... The Middle East is in trouble...

9: Homes will produce and store more electrical energy during the day than they use... It will be sold back to "The Grid"... The Grid will store and dispense it, to the industries that are high electricity users. Has anybody seen the Tesla roof??

10: A baby of today will only see "personal cars" in museums. The FUTURE is approaching faster than most of us can even handle...

11: In 1998, Kodak had 170,000 employees and sold 85% of all photo paper worldwide... Within just a few years, their business model disappeared and they went bankrupt... Who would have thought of that ever happening??

12: What happened to Kodak and Polaroid will happen in a lot of industries in the next 5–10 years ... and most people don't even see it coming...

13: Did you think in 1998 that 3 years later, you would never take pictures on film again? With today's smartphones, who even has a camera these days??

14: Yet digital cameras were invented in 1975... The first ones only had 10,000 pixels but followed Moore's law... As with all exponential technologies, it was a disappointment in the beginning ... before it became superior and mainstream in only a few short years...

15: It will now happen again (but much faster) with Artificial Intelligence (AI), health, autonomous and electric cars, education, 3D printing, agriculture and jobs...

16: Forget the book, "Future Shock," welcome to the 4th Industrial Revolution...

17: Software has disrupted and will continue to disrupt most traditional industries ... (in the next 5 to 10 years...

18: UBER is just a software tool (they don't own any cars), and are now the biggest taxi company in the world.. (Ask any taxi driver if they saw that coming...

19: AIR-BnB is now the biggest hotel company in the world .. (they don't own any properties)... Ask Hilton Hotels or the Marriott if they saw that coming...

20: Artificial Intelligence (AI): Computers become exponentially better in understanding the world... This year, a computer beat the best Go-player in the world ... (10 years earlier than expected)...

21: In the USA, young lawyers already don't get jobs (because of IBM's WATSON) ... you can get legal advice within a few seconds so for the basic stuff ... with 90% accuracy compared with 70% accuracy when done by humans.. So, if you're studying law, STOP IMMEDIATELY... There will be 90% fewer lawyers in the future, what a thought and only omniscient specialists will remain...

22: WATSON already helps nurses diagnosing cancer ... it's 4 times more accurate and many times faster than human nurses...

23: Facebook now has a 'face recognition' software that can recognize faces better than humans... In 2030, computers will become more intelligent than humans...

24: Autonomous cars: In 2018 the first self-driving cars were already here... In the next few years, the entire auto industry will start to be disrupted... You won't want to own a car any more as you will call a car with your phone, it will show up at your location and drive you to your destination...

25: You will not need to park it, you will pay only for the 'driven distance' and you can be productive while driving. The very young children of today will never get a driver's license and they will never own a car..

26: This will change our cities because we will need 90% to 95% fewer cars... We can transform former parking spaces into green city parks...

27: About 1.2 million people die each year in car accidents (worldwide). That includes distracted or drunk drivers... We currently have one accident every 60,000 miles driven... However with autonomous driving that will drop to 1 accident in about 6 million miles... That will save a million plus lives, worldwide each year...

28: Most traditional car companies will doubtless become bankrupt... They will try the evolutionary approach and just build a better car ... while tech companies (Tesla, Apple, Google) will do the revolutionary approach and build a computer on wheels...

29: Look at what Volvo is doing right now ... no more internal combustion engines in their vehicles starting this year with the 2020 models... They are using all-electric or hybrid only (with the intent of phasing out hybrid models in the not too distant future)...

30: Many engineers from Volkswagen and Audi are completely terrified of Tesla... Look at all the companies offering all-electric vehicles... That was unheard of, only a few years ago...

31: Insurance companies will have massive trouble too ... because, without accidents, the costs of insurance will become cheaper... Their car insurance business model will disappear...

32: Real estate will change... Because if you can work while you commute, or you can work from your home ... people will abandon their towers to move far away to more beautiful and affordable properties.

33: Electric cars will become mainstream by about 2030... Cities will be less noisy because all new cars will run ONLY on electricity...

34: Cities will have much cleaner air...

35: Electricity will become incredibly cheap and clean, eventually free...

36: Solar production has been on an exponential curve for 30 years ... but you can now see the burgeoning impact ... and it's just starting to get ramped up...

37: Fossil energy companies are desperately trying to limit access to the grid ... to prevent competition from home solar installations ... but that simply cannot continue... Technology will take care of that strategy in the not too distant future...

38: Health: The Tricorder X price will be announced this year... There are companies who will build a medical device called the "Tricorder" from Star Trek that works with your phone, which takes your retina scan, a sample of your blood, then you breathe into it... It then analyzes 54 biomarkers that will identify nearly any disease.. There are dozens of phone apps out there right now for health...

WELCOME TO TOMORROW: To think, we used to complain about our parents and grandparents being "out of it."

5: Gas stations will go away...

No, they will just morph. Most "service" stations make most of their profit on donuts, snacks, beverages. They are "convenience stores" that also sell gas. They will probably morph into fast charging stations where you can take a rest room break and grab something to eat while your car tops off its charge in 15 minutes.

7: Smart major auto manufacturers have already designated money to start building new plants that build ONLY electric cars..

Already happening. GM and now Ford have established battery "assembly factories" and are working on full platform alignments of all electric vehicles. GM will have three and possibly four all EV vehicles by the end of the 2022 model year (4th will be some kind of truck). Ford has the Mustang EV and it's success is pushing them to ramp up/out production.

28: Most traditional car companies will doubtless become bankrupt... They will try the evolutionary approach and just build a better car ... while tech companies (Tesla, Apple, Google) will do the revolutionary approach and build a computer on wheels...

No. Tesla, Apple and Google will play an important role in moving the technology forward but not as manufacturers. Elon Musk has already admitted that designing a successful electric vehicle is the easy part. Building it economically is really, really, really hard.

I don't see any of this as "revolutionary" as what my great grandmother went through. She was born in 1888. She saw the switch from horse drawn vehicles to automobiles, the birth of the airplane that went from a curiosity to a mainstream way of travel. She made more than one trip from coast to coast on a jetliner with a 5 hour flight time. Telegraph to operator assisted local calls to long distance direct dialing. Newspaper to radio to live color TV. She saw a man walk on the moon.

She did what most of us do, she just accepted it and moved on. She had no problems with elevators, escalators, direct touch tone dialing or remote control TV. I often wondered is she thought privately, what took you so long. Of course we can (and will) do these things. Those that can will adapt and probably prosper. Those that can't will be left behind.

It's definitely someone's opinion, so it means very little, but does give food for thought.

Here's another opinion posted with permission of E7. :D

Choosing a wife

A man wanted to get married. He was having trouble choosing among three likely candidates. He gives each woman a present of $5,000 and watches to see what they do with the money.

The first does a total makeover. She goes to a fancy beauty salon, gets her hair done, new makeup; buys several new outfits and dresses up very nicely for the man. She tells him that she has done this to be more attractive for him because she loves him so much.

The man was impressed.

The second goes shopping to buy the man gifts. She gets him a new set of golf clubs, some new gizmos for his computer, and some expensive clothes. As she presents these gifts, she tells him that she has spent all the money on him because she loves him so much..

Again, the man is impressed.

The third invests the money in the stock market She earns several times the $5,000. She gives him back his $5,000 and reinvests the remainder in a joint account. She tells him that she wants to save for their future because she loves him so much.

Obviously, the man was impressed.

The man thought for a long time about what each woman had done with the money he'd given her.

Then he married the one with the biggest tits.

Men are like that, you know.

And on another note!

There is more money being spent on breast implants and Viagra today than on Alzheimer's research. This means that by 2040, there should be a large elderly population with perky boobs and huge erections and absolutely no recollection of what to do with them.

At one time 95% of Americans were farmers, because you had to grow your own food. Things change.

Fewer highway deaths, fewer cardiorespiratory deaths due to less use of coal (in particular), oil and gas are good things. Ability to live in rural splendor and work from home or work while being transported to the city are all good options. I like the vision of the future although I probably won't live to see it. A healthier and more enjoyable world overall. The only folks who will miss the current setup are the hot rod racers, sociopathic motorcyclists and Lamborghini showoffs who like noise, and car lovers in general who will have to drive in private parks, etc. Sort of like horse lovers. You cannot ride your horse down Park Avenue or Main Street and have him or him relieve himself in the middle of the road as once the custom :). Unless you want to be arrested.

The newer Electric vehicles are much faster than their internal combustion counterparts and they are very quite, So much so they are talking about a requirement to make some noise to protect pedestrians.

The street racers are just now catching on to how fast they are and will be using them. They police can't hear them like they do the present cars. They won't even know it is going on.

Don't count on it  All electronics and digital can be hacked and manipulated.. You should know that by now.

Just like the hackers that took over the computers of the major gas pipeline from Texas to the east coast

Actually I fully count on it - those cars will get hacked but not by their owners.

I heard that a all night charge only gets you 30 miles in a so called Mustang Mach E. That's the equivalent of 1 gallon of gas.

You might want to get new batteries for your hearing aid.

2021 Mustang Mach-E electric crossover equipped with the extended-range battery will charge from 10 to 80 percent in 45 min, and those equipped with the smaller standard-range battery will do it in 38 minutes.

Of course those that think they are going to charge stuff in their home garage using their standard 120V line are probably just a wee bit slower

I think it was in Sunday's Detroit Free Press. The main issues with the Mustang E are owners cherry picking what they read/hear/see. The battery charging circuits/monitors are subject to a form of "memory retention" issue. The owner is supposed to "break in" the battery charge cycle so the charge software will work properly. The behavior is somewhat reminiscent of the memory effect with ni-cads only this is truly "phantom" and can easily be rectified by going back and following the procedures in the owners manual.

The other "tip" was to do pre-drive cabin warm up/cool down with the charger still plugged in. The energy penalty on battery power is quite impressive for heating/cooling cabin air and most of the electrics have heated/cooled seats and steering wheels to make start up more comfortable as your own body heat is used to warm up the cabin air.

Re the "big hack". This has more to do with the laziness/stupidity/greed of the pipeline company and its employees than outsider smarts. The "hackers" just took advantage of the laziness/stupidity/greed of their target. The network that runs the system should have been totally isolated and any remote access would only be accomplished through two factor authentication over a fire walled VPN gateway that monitors and logs all access. This is too hard/expensive/complicated!!!!

B.S.

Security is never convenient but it doesn't have to be overly expensive or complicated. Having been involved with IT security our biggest challenge wasn't in making something secure it was in dealing the lazy ignorant sob's that complain and try to undermine things because they are lazy ignorant sob's.

I don't see why I can't do .....

What part of "Because it makes it easy for bad guys to break in!!!!" wasn't clear to you!

That seems a practice now widely applied to a multitude of subjects so that far too many can read/hear/see whatever it is that pleases them.

I don't like reality so I'll find something somewhere that I can use to support the reality I want to have exist.
