Awesome!!

You got me inspired. I pulled out the Rare Jets F-86D and restarted working on it. I haven't touched it for something like 30 years? It is kind of weird to see the price sticker. It was supposed to be $4 but was marked down to $2 (1980 dollars). I think the 1/72 injection molded kits were going for $7-$10 at that time. Walt had bought a case of RarePlanes/RareJet kits partially because Bo built them and they hoped that the SE Michigan modeling fraternity would get interested. It was a pretty short period of interest. I really wish I hadn't lost the upper port wing on the U-2. That was a nice kit.

That's really looking excellent!

Thanks!I remember well the prices in the 70s and 80s!Weird to see kits that used to cost 3 bucks go for 20 or 30 bucks!

You can also find the opposite. I’ve seen 40 year old vacu-form kits go for a buck at IPMS Nationals’ vendor area. Depends on the kit...some of them were pretty miserable.

Yes they are a challenge and once superceded by vastly superior injection molded and resin kits they fell out of favor .The exceptions are Contrail,Rareplanes ,Dynavektor and Welsh Models who were and are several levels above the average vac form kit.

RarePlanes did an F-3 demon in 1/72, probably $4 in 1980, now about $20 on eBay. AirModel did the same plane probably ~4$ then now $34 on eBay. The AirModel kit is incredibly crude. The right and left side fuselage halves don't even match up IN LENGTH. That's about when I abandoned working on the "kit". RarePlanes kit was actually a pretty decent kit (as were pretty much all of their models. Vintage and "rare" are words I would not use to describe the AirModel product.

Probably not, with your skills. Do you have the detail bits for it?

Creative, figure-it-out intellect adventures like that are good for the health of our brains. They give us new spaces and objects for our minds to conjure into a new result .

Doesn't look as bad as the F-3. You'll know soon enough when you start trying to fit the pieces together!

The demon had terrible "surface" detailing to go with the poor fit. I originally thought it was a kit where they stretched the plastic over a male mold versus the RarePlanes which were sucked down into a female mold, hence the fine detailing.

The only Airmodel kit I ever bought/saw was the F-3 and it's possible it's a "one off" OR the mold was overused/damaged.
