Those bases are there for their protection from the big bad bear. And those bases also provide billions of dollars in benefits to those countries economies.

We rebuilt both Germany and Japan to be economic powerhouses in the world. They don't like us but they love our money and protection.

Australia kicked us out of some base and now they want us back. It seems they are a little bit concerned about China's aggressive nature in the area.

The middle east will always be a power keg. India and Pakistan could go at it anytime. Hindus against the Muslims. Myanmar and Bangladesh, Budas against the Muslims. China putting Muslims in concentration camp to reprogram them.

Somehow I don't think the American people will tolerate us getting involved in any of this. It will cost money and no free stuff.

I agree with you but have no firm idea if what you said would hold true.
I agree because of the Vietnam experience. A whole lot of Americans are not sure WTF we were doing there and why so many (more than one would have still been offensive, including the one) young Americans were sacrificed there in that hellhole. To fight Communism, what you called "the big bad bear" ? Nonsense, we would still say to those who took us there. Does anybody KNOW to this day what good it did , all that sacrifice? That loss, to families and to the country? Did anybody say Thank You ? Did Vietnam?

I better shutup, STFU.

The reason for the Amazon fires. Clearing the land for farming ?

Global appetite for beef and soy fuels Amazon fires
https://www.japantimes.co.jp/news/2019/ ... zon-fires/

Brazil is the world’s largest exporter of beef, with a record 1.64 million tons sent to its top markets China, Egypt and the European Union in 2018, according to the Brazilian Beef Exporters Association.

Brazil exported a record 83.3 million tons of the crop in 2018, up 22.2 percent from 2017, according to the economy ministry.

The country is the top supplier of soybeans to the United States but sends the most overall to China.

Brazilian soybean exports to China jumped nearly 30 percent last year thanks to the trade dispute with Washington, which pushed Beijing to look for other sources of the crop it uses to feed cattle.

Amazon fires: Angola and DR Congo 'have more blazes'
https://www.bbc.com/news/world-africa-49471644

The severity of fires in the Amazon has prompted a global outcry. But, amid the protest, some are questioning how this compares with the rest of the world, with surprising results.

The issue has got people checking out Nasa's maps of fires around the world. When you look at the map from Sunday, it clearly shows more fires burning in central Africa.

Over a period of two days last week Angola had roughly three times more fires than Brazil, according to data Bloomberg news agency obtained from Weather Source.

The data said there were 6,902 fires in Angola and 3,395 fires in neighbouring Democratic Republic of Congo, compared with just 2,127 fires in Brazil.

I think those are all jungle areas so they should be of equal importance.

The Sahara was once verdant land, not desert at all. Then, it changed, a long time ago.

Extinction Rebellion 'lose control of fake blood hose'
https://www.bbc.com/news/av/uk-england- ... blood-hose

Extinction Rebellion, since it was formed late last year, has been demanding that Parliament act "to halt biodiversity loss and reduce greenhouse gas emissions to net-zero by 2025,” while also pushing for them to “create and be led by the decisions of a Citizens’ Assembly on climate and ecological justice.”

“Societal collapse and mass death are seen as inevitable by scientists and other credible voices, with human extinction also a possibility, if rapid action is not taken,” it has also warned.

Cut off the use of fossil fuels by the end of this year and watch “Societal collapse and mass death" take place sooner.

Nothing like trashing the environment while you are saving it.

I will admit that humans have been responsible for some part of climate change.
However we seem to overlook the part that the sun plays in it and some other natural events.
I still contend that we do not know what normal temperature is for the Earth. The "little ice
age" has not ended yet. When it reaches a point where it, the temperature, becomes stable
(or stabile?) we should be at normal temperature.

About the time when socialists got control of the area

Let's see....littering, public nuisance, blocking traffic, someone has to clean up the mess, and of course contaminating the environment - around here they would get arrested for dumping whatever that was ending up in the Chesapeake watershed. So at minimum, yes. Fined and made to pay costs of cleaning up the mess and all costs associated with response.

But that was just 4 of them. There are thousands more of then that have other plans.

The group says its next protest is scheduled for Monday next week – and the Met Police are working to free up as many officers as possible to deal with it.

“In the UK, we will peacefully shut down all roads into Westminster in Central London and non-violently disrupt the government until our leaders agree to TAKE EMERGENCY ACTION NOW,” reads a post on its website. “Other non-violent actions will target corporations, ministries, and infrastructure that maintain our toxic system.”

So, let them break laws and then get arrested. Thought-crime is not yet in place although it does seem to be in our future

Chicago teens stage 'die-in' to demand action on climate change
https://news.yahoo.com/chicago-teens-st ... 07954.html

CHICAGO — About 200 protesters marched through downtown Chicago Monday evening to demand lawmakers declare a climate emergency.

Kind of reminds me of the occupy Wall Street rebellion a few years ago. It didn't accomplish anything either. They didn't and don't have any plans for what to do. Just make a nuisance of yourself to get attention.

Chicago has a "die in" every weekend, but it's not staged
