Enya and Annie Lennox come to mind as some incredible female vocalist. Hell, I can sit and listen to Lennox sing "Into the West" from "Lord of the Rings" and get a lump in my throat. She has to be one of the greatest female vocalist living.

Always liked her work and voice - really knows how to make the most of range.
Always liked Pat Benatar, Debbie Harry, and Shirley Manson, too.

Good Choices. Cindy Lauper had a voice with a lot of range and dynamics and on some songs she really excelled. Silly bubblegum music, but her voice was just incredible and some songs easy to listen too.

Yes & no. She made a lot of very good more serious stuff that did not get popular air play.....
Old live version of Money Changes Everything...... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pp4suZ4jNXg
She was touring and doing that entire album straight through.....it's aged surprisingly well as has she.
She also was in a l;ive performance of The Wall in Berlin (entire performance is worth watching!!!) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5e7X9m9QC3k
Cyndi shows up about 4:50 into the song dressed a schoolgirl -- something like 300k in the audience......

Here is a real female musician (again opinion):

What!!! Of course Alison Porter is not a musician, she is a singer (vocalist.) A musician is someone who plays a musical insturement.
That link to Diane Birch was delightful, Diane is not only a musician (plays keyboard) but is an instrument herself (a horn.)
Thank you for introducing me to Diane Birch, Rich.
All right then, I am pulling out the big guns... Anna Netrebko & Elina Garanca

If anyone does not agree they are the best vocalists ever, then watch this => https://youtu.be/b5f5KMQaAac

I agree about Cindy Lauper's singing.
And on rare occasions, she could look awesome...

Wayne,
I agree about Lauper.
The duet ladies, if I remember, one was classically trained and schooled and the other was practically self taught.
Don't remember the details and could be wrong.

Re: Here's a New one for you Wayne!
I just heard, totally unexpectedly, Brighton Thomas, a singer I had never seen previously. She was on American Songbook, @ NJPAC, and she stopped me in my tracks as I was channel-surfing, as she was singing:One Less Bell to Answer. Of course, I had heard the song decades ago , by Fifth Dimension, but this new version by this 17 year old had a profound truth to it. The truth was penetrating.
Then, she sang Happy Days Are Here Again, which was delightful as interpreted by her.

Wayne, If you ever get the opportunity to view that entire episode of Live at Darryl's house you will really enjoy it. Hearing Daryl Hall's comments about her (Birch) is pretty interesting!
Hall really gets some GREAT talent on that show. You might enjoy Genevieve Schatz of the group "Company of Thieves" and Grace Potter (of Grace Potter and the Nocturnals) among others.
Sadly, T-Bone Wolk, the guitarist to Hall's right, passed on shortly after the Birch episode.

There are a pile of performances from LFDH on You Tube if you search: You Tube and the artists name.
