Cavett had a lot of rather interesting musical guests and pushed more than a few envelopes at that time.

I believe he still lives on Long Island , in the Hamptons, across the water from and in view of Katherine Hepburn's house, a journey she sometimes made by small boat to visit him

QUESTION

Will robots soon replace teachers in the classroom?
Inspirational teachers of the future will be intelligent machines rather than humans, according to a British university vice chancellor.
http://www.foxnews.com/tech/2017/09/11/ ... sroom.html

Within 10 years a technological revolution will sweep aside old notions of education and change the world forever, Sir Anthony Seldon says.

The vice chancellor of the University of Buckingham believes school teachers will lose their traditional role and effectively become little more than classroom assistants.

They will remain on hand to set up equipment, help children when necessary and maintain discipline, he added.

However, the essential job of instilling knowledge into young minds will wholly be done by artificially intelligent (AI) computers.

Sir Anthony, a former master at Wellington College and political commentator who has written biographies of ex-prime ministers David Cameron, Tony Blair, John Major and Gordon Brown, said: “It certainly will change human life as we know it.

“It will open up the possibility of an Eton or Wellington education for all.

“Everyone can have the very best teacher and it’s completely personalized; the software you’re working with will be with you throughout your education journey. It can move at the speed of the learner.

“This is beyond anything that we’ve seen in the industrial revolution or since with any other new technology.

Murph,
In reference to the pisserias, I don't think in the near future.

Concerning teachers, I think we are on the way. Just the use of computers will/has already made major changes.
I have trouble accepting a PHD received from a computer oriented university than the traditional ones where the
candidate put in a lot of hours in a different way. This is probably just how an old traditional teacher that does
not understand the process very well feels.
Science fiction has used computer and individualized learning for many years.

Roger, can you imagine a computer teaching music as well as a person?

Already being done.
The performance and interpretation of a piece of music still seems to need a human element.
However, many seem to be satisfied with computer generated music especially for accompaniments.
I think that is because a computer can be cheaper than an orchestra/band of any size.

I don't know what's possible with computer generated music today. I can't stand that cheesy synthesized shit I've heard in the past.

I suspect you have not heard any good electronic music then....and there is quite a lot of very good electronic music.......

OTOH, there is a lot of crappy music of all sorts and origins.

I don't know what you mean by electronic music. Electric guitars have been around awhile, and I'm quite fond of certain such music. Moog synthesizers, on the other hand - ffuck that noise.
