I'm sure that Barry will have that addressed in the next edition of his book........
Conservatism: The intense fear that somewhere, somehow, someone you think is inferior is being treated as your equal.

Re: Yeah, that ought to work!
Reminds me of a GG1 I walked through at Strasburg, PA museum. If the engineer wanted
to go in the opposite direction, he simply walked through the snug windowed central chamber and shifted the power lever (my description of it all) to go forward in the new direction. Two "fronts" but one purpose at a time.

Very appealing.

If this is a good idea...
then this ought to work even better!

Fortunately, then, instead, diesels were invented.

Hmmm, and I thought that quartering the drivers on a 4-8-4 was a hard job.
Re: Yeah, that ought to work!
This one will work better. Take you anywhere you want to go.
Re: Yeah, that ought to work!
What if we replaced the dirty coal with clean electricity to heat the boiler?
Yeah, that ought to work.

That is a long locomotive. How is it going to negotiate curves?
A hinged frame and ball joint in the boiler you say? Yeah, that ought to work!

Yes, but would not that big driver wheel right at the joint prevent any flexing there?

There are two ball joints, one inside each boiler half. I can see the frame pivot through the spokes of the wheel. With a double ball joint joining the boilers exact alignment of the frame pivot with boiler joints is not necessary. Figure 7 shows a similar frame pivot with the yaw pivot point behind the wheel.
