Uranus is a tourist attraction in unincorporated rural Pulaski County, Missouri, United States, along the former U.S. Route 66 (US 66). All businesses are owned by Louie Keen, who calls himself the "Mayor of Uranus".

The name attracts attention due to a common pronunciation of Uranus. The accent should be on the U. Uranus. noun. ˈyu̇r-ə-nəs

There is another Uranus fudge factory in Indiana.

The incredible shrinking 2x4.
Image
I remember when 2x4 framing lumber was 1 5/8 x 3 5/8 x 96 inches and "rough cut" framing lumber measured 2 x 4 x 96 inches.
Today I purchased 2" x 4" x 8' studs that measured 2 1/2 x 3 1/2 x 92 5/8 inches.
Where is this shrinking size of framing timbers going to end?

THE TEN LAWS OF DROPPED SCREWS

IF YOU DROP ONE
1. It will always roll much farther than you believe it can.
2. If there’s something it can roll under, it will.
3. It will always roll in the opposite direction of the sound it makes in falling.
4. If it falls without making a sound, you will never find it.
5. When it hits, it actively seeks a hiding place that you “just can’t quite reach.”
6. If you try to find it with a magnet, it will be made of brass or stainless steel.
7. If it falls on a carpet, it buries itself deep in the pile.
8. When you think you’ve found it, it will be the screw you dropped from your last project and could not find.
9. If you lay it down all by itself on your workbench, it will move.
10. If you are able to watch it fall, it will know you’re watching it and will give up and forego its evil intentions. This is your only hope of beating the Second Law.

A common perception among structural engineers is that tornadoes are too intense to design buildings to withstand them.

WRONG! For the first time, the 2024 version of the International Building Code (IBC) contains a section on tornado resiliency.

EXPENSIVE? Not compared to having your house blow away. It may cost $500 or $1,500 extra on new construction for a typical-size home to be tied to the ground so that it cannot lift off in a tornado.

Man gets boat painted on fence that city made him put up to hide it
https://www.ky3.com/2024/05/11/man-gets ... p-hide-it/

SEASIDE, Calif. (KSBW) - A California man who was told by city officials he needed to put a fence up to hide his boat from public view did just that – with a twist.

Etienne Constable says he received a letter from the City of Seaside in July 2023. The city required him to build a 6-foot coverage screen in front of his boat. After discussing the plan with his neighbor, Constable decided to build the fence – with a lifelike painting of the boat on it.

“I’m not a rule-breaker, but I like to make a political statement as necessary, as well as a humorous statement and a creative statement,” Constable said.
