Time for Church
Re: Time for Church
"I tried to find him on the Christian cross, but he was not there; I went to the Temple of the Hindus and to the old pagodas, but I could not find a trace of Him anywhere. I searched on the mountains and in the valleys but neither in the heights nor in the depths was I able to find Him. I went to the Caaba in Mecca, but He was not there either. I questioned the scholars and philosophers, but He was beyond their understanding.
"I then looked into my heart and it was there where He dwelled that I saw Him; He was nowhere else to be found."
Jelaluddin Rumi

Indeed. Speaks to my feelings about organized religion very nicely.

Re: Time for Church
I always had trouble understanding the "organized" part of religion.
Please don't ask me to explain that. If you don't understand it you never will.
And you do not need to accept the statement just try to understand other sides.

Understood and accepted.

You either feel something inside that makes you do good or you don't. If you require/enjoy group therapy or support groups, then I think organized religion is for you.

Or you are in need of having someone else think for you and tell you what to do......

Our recessional today will be hymn 419, "How Could You Believe Me When I Told You That I Love You and You Know I've Been a Liar All My Life," from the National Lampoon's Book of Hymns.

Right after Reverend Maynard delivers the homily:
And the angel of the lord came unto me, snatching me up from my place of slumber.
And took me on high, and higher still until we moved to the spaces betwixt the air itself.
And he brought me into a vast farmlands of our own Midwest.
And as we descended, cries of impending doom rose from the soil.
One thousand, nay a million voices full of fear. And terror possessed me then
And I begged, "Angel of the Lord, what are these tortured screams?"
And the angel said unto me, "These are the cries of the carrots, the cries of the carrots!
You see, Reverend Maynard, tomorrow is harvest day and to them it is the holocaust."
And I sprang from my slumber drenched in sweat like the tears of one million terrified brothers and roared,
"Hear me now, I have seen the light! They have a consciousness, they have a life, they have a soul! Damn you!
Let the rabbits wear glasses! Save our brothers!"
Can I get an amen? Can I get a hallelujah? Thank you, Jesus

Re: Time for Church
And yesterday, in NYC , we - WE - had another example of one particular alleged-religion inspiring and directing followers " to inflict suffering beyond what the enemy can imagine," thus helping a "follower" to find self-expression of his devotion to helping the world come-to-heel. Happy to talk about what he did, the murderer, Saipov, said, "I am proud of what I did ." That's an exact quote.
Now, there's an attractive "religion" to run right out and bow to. I would rather be an actual sheep than a sheeple in such a pompous, devoid-of-empathy group.

Re: Time for Church
That is a very nice and typical sanctuary of that period found in many churches of different denominations.
As with many things, details made/make the difference.
