And that carriage house / shed around back is pretty interesting, too!

Yup. And in such interesting contrast to the church building. Our Pastor would have had a team of volunteers out there repairing and painting that building up so fast, there would barely have been time for that picture to have been taken. In fact, in our parish, he would not have had to even ask, frankly.

Here is a look inside a church, our Sanctuary, showing Father with some of his helpers. (They freaked-out over seeing the layout, not wanting to leave for quite a while, which was great fun for my wife and me. You see, we all believe in Christmas, so having a bit of extra play added to the joy of it all for everybody.) :D

I like the guy in the middle who looks like he could be related to John Candy. Has an interesting "devil may care" look about him. :D :D :D

If he's your pastor, you must have some interesting sermons, as he doesn't strike me as a "rank and file" type individual. I've had a few like that in my lifetime and they certainly make listening a lot more enjoyable and most times, more thought provoking.

Your insight is amazing, BH ! He is as you have discerned. Every sermon is interesting and informative and instructive . Some I can still quote in my mind at times when an incident they have touched upon arises. Plus, he's fun. We take him (and sometimes some of those seminarians standing with him) to luncheon every Sunday, and these is never a dull moment or space empty of conversation. You'd be amazed at the missions and tasks he's gotten me to embark upon that I thought I had no ability or interest or power to perform.

What was the deal with the steps, at that Dempseytown church?

Little before my time,

But those seem to be cut stone stacked in place -- not uncommon particularly given the stone foundation work.

Nowadays, a handrail would have been required, in most states, right? (I neglected one here, too.)

Today, yes.

Your scene appears to be well before "today", so maybe not

Yeah, my scenes tend to be envisioned as somewhere to the sharp left of Oz , in a place called Imaginationland. :D
