Hobo Jungle
Re: Hobo Jungle
Please raise a glass for Shoya Tomizawa.
That a life will be spent gaining inches,
When this distance is read in miles.

Re: Hobo Jungle
Although I'm not familiar with Shoya Tomizawa, your request is fine by me, Tramp.
A salute to the gentleman.

Pete, Here are a couple more from my vault for Airborne! The first is Springfield's Socom 16.

Next is my Bulgarian AK-47.

Re: Hobo Jungle
On this Labor Day, if you'll join me in raising a glass, snifter, can, bottle, tincup...
Here's to the working folk.
These are the people who haven't lost sight of the "work ethic", or the dream of giving their family a secure future.
Here's to folks who know responsibility to one's family.
Here's to folks that can dream, then quietly knuckle down and chase that dream.
Here's to folks who pay their taxes, bitch about their politicians, send their kids to school and do their damdest to teach them the Golden Rule.
Folks at Walmart, farmers, mechanics, the jerk who holds us up at road construction sites with a stop-sign and a walkee-talkee. The guy who drives the snowplow, the schoolbus, the mail-truck. The unseen who spike track, fuel aircraft, somehow get the coal into the power-plant furnace.
I live among these folks. When I lived near DC (both in and out of uniform) it was easy to think there were no more working folk. We moved to Pennsylvania, found they still exist, and now live among them. There they are, driving pick-up trucks with loud exhausts, slightly ratty Cavaliers, mini-vans, and Amish buggies. They're my neighbors and my friends.
I'm glad to see they exist in such abundance, for that makes my military career worth every minute. I consider it a privilege to once again live among them.
Let's lift a glass to the working folk. As an old military man, I say to them, "Don't thank me. Thank YOU for your service."

Let's drink to the hard working people
Let's drink to the lowly of birth
Raise your glass to the good and the evil
Let's drink to the salt of the earth
Say a prayer for the common foot soldier
Spare a thought for his back breaking work
Say a prayer for his wife and his children
Who burn the fires and who still till the earth
And when I search a faceless crowd
A swirling mass of gray and
Black and white
They don't look real to me
In fact, they look so strange
Raise your glass to the hard working people
Let's drink to the uncounted heads
Let's think of the wavering millions
Who need leading but get gamblers instead
Spare a thought for the stay-at-home voter
Empty eyes gaze at strange beauty shows
And a parade of the gray suited grafters
A choice of cancer or polio
And when I look in the faceless crowd
A swirling mass of grays and
Black and white
They don't look real to me
Or don't they look so strange
Let's drink to the hard working people
Let's think of the lowly of birth
Spare a thought for the rag taggy people
Let's drink to the salt of the earth
Let's drink to the hard working people
Let's drink to the salt of the earth
Let's drink to the two thousand million
Let's think of the humble of birth
Let's drink to the lowly of birth

As the literacy rate declines, you’ll ask yourself why the quality of life continues to deteriorate in ways large and small, and in almost every instance the answer will be: because people stopped reading.

Re: Hobo Jungle
Sarge, that was excellent!
Happy Labor Day to all my fellow grunts here in the Jungle. I could not be more proud, and pleased, to be acquainted with all you guys.

Oh yeah, the same from Rosie, (Senorita Mamasita Rosalita), who has taken it as her Life's work, each and every time we bring home a 20# bag of dog food, to eat it as fast and as honorably as possible. And she does it well. Here's to her day of rest...
