I just realized your photos are sideways.
And you get peacefulness in the middle of a city.

Thanx, Roger, fixed it; hadn't realized they were askew because I had done the picture-taking and posting via my i-phone.

From the bucolic parade (gentlemen in white may be employees at the dairy?) to Fuller Lake at Pine Grove Furnace, Pa

I'd bet that gym was not built for basketball games.

Does the State University at Edinburgh still exist?
If it does, what is its present name?

Why not?

Structure still stands and is in use - It's now the Diebold Center for the Performing Arts.

That looks like a 2 1/2 story building with attics. The other 1/2 story is below ground.
I don't think the ceilings are high enough to play basketball. Of course I could be wrong.
That happens more often than the alternative. :D

Reminds me of the old gym building where I went for my undergrad.......interior seemed a lot larger than the outside and it was open to play basketball in basically to keep everyone off the floors in the new gym building.

Maybe it has a full, deep basement, like my old school did, same circa and general architecture, IMHO; same state, and it had plenty of headroom for a cafeteria, stage, and basketball. Here it is going down, a few years ago, and while shiny and new. The basement may look shallow, but it had plenty of room height, with those windows needing a reach-up with a pole to operate. If you note the front-entrance door in the crotch of the front stone steps leading to the first-floor main entrance to the classroom levels, you can detect you are seeing its top, mostly, and the door lead to steps that descended to the cafeteria hall partially below groundlevel.

Yes. A kentucky school where I taught had a lowered floor for the gym and the other floors looked out over the gym.
It was not the best place to watch a game.

I have the impression, from this vantage point in time, that those old buildings - new in their day - were very, very sturdy constructions.

I knew I would get old, someday, but I don't think I ever imagined I would actually be old. Maybe the old buildings have had the same experience? And I never thought I'd start falling apart or begin being disassembled, either(!!!!). :?

We probably look to some people as old and decrepit as these old buildings did when they started taking them down.
Some would take us down if at all possible. Like those old buildings, there are many who think that they have nothing
left to contribute so it's time to take them down. Don't think about it too hard.
