I think the ATSF actually made and ran some similar ones to those described above.

ATSF is the only railroad I know of to try jointed boilers. Baldwin made the ball jointed boiler locomotives and accordion fold boiler locomotives for ATSF. There's no record of whether the accordion boiler could be persuaded to play musical notes during its operation.
