I know it well Mitch. Down the dirt road and over the river. Then up the side of the dam to another boat for a ride to an island. There is cool sand island that is good for swimming and a bath. However it may be a little cold now.

Now you will have to pay me for all of the 40 years of fishing knowledge on the lake.

Reno, I was there last year too, in the second week of Sept. My oldest son, I think this is his fourth trip. He was just up there in June.

What a place. Do you get to stay at one of those houses on stilts with the red roofs?

'Morning, Daisy. Yes, there are 10 cabins on the island. You can see how small the island is, and there are wooden sidewalks to each cabin. All the cabins have been systematically replaced, over the last 11 years that Ken and Bev have owned it. The biggest building is the main lodge, where all the meals are served; they live upstairs, and the hands live downstairs below the lodge. You don't touch anything, there. They fire up the generator at 6:00am, breakfast at 7:00, and you're ready to go fishin'. Excellent boats and motors, all gassed up, bait boxes loaded, they have comfortable seats, fish finders, live wells, etc. Each day, you have your choice of a box lunch, or if you kept fish from the day before, they provide you with all the makings of a shore lunch. Got these great little kits that hold a Coleman 2 burner stove, with a tank of propane stuffed in each end, then a box with your frozen fish, potatoes, an onion, cooking oil, condiments, metal plates and utensils, and bottled water. When you come back in for supper, they meet you at the dock, tie up the boat, and while you're dining, they clean the boat, gas it back up, replenish the bait boxes, etc. While you're out, they clean the cabins, make up the beds, etc. The lodge is open 'til 10:00pm, and they have endless pots of coffee, cookies, and other pastries in case the munchies hit. They shut the generator down at 11:00pm.Each cabin has its own hot water tank, so no cold showers in the evening. They do have some brands of beer on the island in case you run out or your own. Last year we took in 5 cases of beer, 1 case of coke(for the Rum), and 2 half-gallon jugs of Rum. BTW, no drinking in the boats, against Canadian drunk driving laws. Since everything arrives on the island by boat, from 55 gallon drums of gasoline and diesel, to the food that you eat, they request you bring either aluminum cans or plastic jugs, that can be compacted and hauled back out. It's an unbelievable service oriented vacation for $950 US for a full week. It's why I'm going back.

The good news is the layout made it through the 15 year olds, now it is time for round two since my younger daughter now has a house full of 12 year olds. Yeah two big end of summer parties back to back and it had to rain today. Well guess what they found?

I’m keeping my figures crossed on this one since I have trusted the layout to the hands of the 12 year olds. The only problem is there are too many girls for just three rail lines and everybody wants to be the operator. For some reason the most popular control system is the old fashion transformer.

It is really nice to see so many young girls interested in the layout. I know this has been the first time a few of the girls have ever had the opportunity to run trains. The got the hang of the switch controls pretty well and I think we might make it through the night with out an accident.

My wife has now admitted that the train layout was worth the space, money and effort to build. I think that is the first time she ever said I as right.

Now I think I might be able to get her to agree to even a larger layout.
