I'd advocate a six-month moratorium on buying stuff manufactured in China, but it'd be tough to go cold turkey for an extended period of time (especially in a country with an attention span measured in nano-seconds).

Japan tried something along those lines and lasted about 2 weeks.

We don’t need another toy barbie in this country or bob the builder thomas the tank engine. Clothes. I buy second hand. Thrift stores by me are filled with brand new unused clothes. We buy to much and waste way more then we should

That's been true for better than 50 years.

Japan has few natural resources. They don't even have enough land to feed themselves. We do have those things. We should be as independent of China as possible, when it comes to strategic goods.

We are not and cannot be entirely self-sufficient on all strategic goods.

Yeah, I know. We bought the titanium for our SR-71 spy plane, from the Soviets. The Chinese have a lock on rare earth metals. What else, can't we provide ourselves?

Given that rare earths are in just about everything that we depend on.......that might be enough right there.

Well, here's a simple one for you, Mo-99. Here's another, He. Basic elements.

But we could have address most, if not all, but we were to cheap to invest in our own country, and it's best interests.

And we're just about out of good & common sense

""And we're just about out of good & common sense""

Yeah, that natural resource is about the most important and we ARE woefully short there.

Ever seen the rare earth mining-manufacturing process? I’m actually okay with the Chinese handling that for the rest of the world.

Free Press article on UAW/Big Three getting anxious about possible shutdown of operations because of COVID 19 uptick in Michigan. Governor has issues warnings that a second lock down may be coming if the rates don't improve. The Big Three and the UAW working together have brought down the infection rates within the plants. They don't seem to understand that this isn't an easily compartmentalized issue. "I think your side of the boat is sinking" is not going to cut it.

If they want to do something constructive they need to start publicizing the basic safety rules and in effect explain to the general public why you need to do these things from an economic stand point, aka it is in everyones best interest to behave. The testing in Michigan is not up to what it needs to be and the contact tracing is struggling along BUT it has resulted in tracing some major outbreaks back to single events where a relative handful of people have behaved very, very badly and put entire communities at risk. Latest worst case is a graduation celebration at Hillsdale college. While the school took steps to distance people at the ceremony and required mask use and screened temperatures it also took the stance that the at capacity local hotels, motels, B&D's, restaurants and other things that supported this event were "not their problem/concern". It's everybody's concern or at least it should be.

What good does it do for an employer to take steps to protect it's workforce if it's members than leave work and act irresponsibly. There is no way that we are going to make it as a society if people don't come together and fully understand that this is a war with an enemy that we can't even see and doesn't care what our beliefs, religious or otherwise, are. It's not a hoax. People are dying and they really don't have to.

There are no bystanders in this battle. There can't be any conscientious objectors. You either actively participate or you risk becoming a casualty and probably take others down with you. It's not even that hard. Wear a mask, keep 6 feet apart, do not congregate in groups over ten, and wash your hands.

We have moved past simple and easy. Simple and easy would be having a cavity filled. Now we need a root canal and a crown. People dropped their guard. 1 month ago every bread roll was individually wrapped in the bakery section. all sitting out on a table. Doughnuts same thing. Each doughnut was in a clear plastic box. Now these things are dumped back into a bin. Waiting for the masses to fumble through the bin for a roll. Stores had arrows on the floor. one way isle. No more. Basketball courts are opened in the park. You cant play baseball. Baseball field is closed. So are tennis courts. 20 kids are crammed onto a basketball court having fun. Wait till one of them comes home from the jersey shore. I can't wait to see what the tune of our conversations are come the holidays.
