Bush made one hell of a mistake taking out Saddam. Should have left him alone. Iraq and Iran would still be having at it. And Obama didn't learn a thing from it as he took out Qaddafi and tried to take out Assad. Between Bush and Obama they made a total mess over there.

We made a big mistake back in the 80s when Russia was invited into Afghanistan to fight the group that became know as the Taliban. We just had to push the Russians out. That would still be Russia's mess today.

Should have stayed out of Vietnam and Korea. All those young American live wasted and for what. Trillions of dollars spent also and we are still spending it in Korea.

That would be a summary of my perspective on it all, too.

O' course, I still have guilt over the Crusades, so what do I know. :?

The Crusades are still going on to this day. The Muslims trying to conquer & destroy the Christian's and the Jews.

And the Christian's and the Jews resisting.

Okay, Murph, and maybe wiser than many others, too. I'm sure that some absolution for your part and involvement is available.

Just understanding that there will be consequences at some future time and being able to take that into real consideration would be novel. Instead, it's just passed on under the heading of "not my problem" to be cleaned up by later generations who may or not have any understanding of the causality of their situation leading them to respond in ways that only exacerbate.
Common sense is the collection of prejudices acquired by age eighteen.

I'm still trying to figure out how to intelligently view King Richard the Lionheart, properly, whatever that may mean.)

All you can really do is put it into the context of the times.

Sanders lays out his 'radical dream' to solve climate change
https://news.yahoo.com/bernie-sanders-l ... 09608.html

“We’ve got to bring China and Russia and Brazil and Pakistan and India and every major country on Earth into the fight against climate change, and here is my dream — maybe it’s a radical dream, but maybe just maybe, given the crisis of climate change, the world can understand that instead of spending $1.8 trillion a year collectively on weapons of destruction designed to kill each other, maybe we pool our resources and fight our common enemy, which is climate change.”

I actually like the idea. Unfortunately the reality is we don't have a snow balls chance in h e l l of getting these countries to agree on anything like this.

Not far off from my own thinking about it would be great if we could get all the countries to stop building weapons to kill each other and spend the money on space travel. However mine is just a dream also.

It's fun to dream and it doesn't cost me money.

That just might be the most correct and unarguable statement placed on this forum. History is relative.

Has there ever been anybody the political system hasn't nailed to a cross once they have self-identified as a candidate or been elected?

Could there be?

While context of the times is certainly important, certain behaviors are vile whether in 1200 or 2000. We don't explain Mengele or Stalin and their murderous, cruel, vicious behavior by the times in which they lived, for example. Trump's lying, narcissism and cruelty to others aren't explained by the times we live in, but by his character flaws. The Crusades were pretty ugly but can be explained to a large extent by the culture and belief structure of those times. In war, there are those who behave honorably and those who behave dishonorably regardless of the century.

Lets see. the Democrats have a old man who did the exact same thing they tried to impeach Trump for, a homosexual, a habitual liar, and a 80 year old heart attack prone.

Interesting to see that included among a list with a moral negative and a medical negative..
