Introducing the Ob Long Box Co. This is the prototype for the first kit in my Frank Ellison Tribute Series. Frank was a pioneer back in the 1930s, 40s & 50s. He was considered a top name in the field and his beautifully built Delta Lines was perhaps the most widely known model railroad in the world according to John Page, the editor of Model Railroader Magazine in the early 1950s.

Frank authored a series of articles on all aspects of model railroading. Of particular note was his How-to pieces on scratch building the structures he created for his railroad. Back then, there were no building kits and detail parts like we have today. He made everything out of cardboard with the features like corrugations drawn in with ink and colored with oil base artist colors.

So, I am bringing these structures back to life with my spin on them. The idea is that if Frank were alive today, this is how he would do it --using modern materials.

This limited edition of 100 kits will go into production after the York TCA Meet and will be available this summer. I will be taking pre-orders at York or over the phone. The price will be $95.

I like this. I'm wondering if you could make a similar city trolley, out of VW buses?

Neat! What keeps the rear wheels on the rail?

The right side has guide rollers in front and probably in the rear.

I was not sure about the right rear having a guide but maybe there's something sneaking about in the photo back there...

Looks to me like the right rear wheel has the same guide do-hickus that the front wheel does. The left wheel is left to its own devices, I guess.

That is J Graham Oates. He rode across Canada on a motorcycle. First time riding on the cross ties. He did it again but for this trip he prepared himself better, he used an Ariel Red Hunter with variable sidecar sidecar and two flanged wheels, one on the front wheel and the other on the rear wheel. Driving on the track and not on the crossbars. This trip was longer than that of 1928 and traveled about 20,000 km (12,427 miles.) He left the first of August and came to his destination on December 17, 1932.
