Yup. a 2012 with 93K on the clock. Thing ran like a dream. FWD...for some reason I thought the Countryman's were all AWD. Cruised at 80 mph coming south on I-87, dodging the NYS troopers that like to hang out on the crossovers in the median.

Not sure how we managed to crack the wind-screen...there was a brawl at Katie O'Byrnes when some damn fool questioned Michael Collins' ancestral background...I don't remember anything after that. Came to, face-down in the parking lot...I hope I hit someone

My whacking great ego would like to think I was a bad influence on you...

Are you referring to the Michael Collins who had the stones to meet with Lloyd George and Churchill to hammer out the Anglo-Irish treaty, only to be murdered in a most cowardly fashion by the IRA during the Irish Civil War?

That would be the one, and trust me, I hit no one. A tall tale...I still can't get my right arm fully extended.

I always figured Collins got set up by Eamon De Valera...Collins put his name on the treaty that split Ireland, something that De Valera hadn't the stones to do. Collins got himself killed in repayment. They were a lovely bunch...

I could go on a bit of a rail about the last bunch, too, but I've been getting lectures about my behaviour every time I wax lyrical on some subject or another lately.

I hear ya...

After getting a two-hour lecture from a few good Schenectady Irishmen, I have a desire to go back and read up on my Irish history. My scant recollection didn't seem to line up with their view of the times. At some point you just shut up and listen, lol, and Guinness doesn't seem to temper the emotions around the topic.

No it doesn't and I have to more shut up and roll my eyes than listen-Grin!

It (the 70s and 80s version of the PIRA) cost me a school-mate or two, all financed by American Irish-Catholic church fundraisers who had no idea what they were supporting and what the questions really were. Lovely bunch is right...

Irish history is fascinating and yet poorly appreciated and understood. Perhaps its because it is so emotionally close to so many people still today. It's hard to look at in a detached way such as to get a real picture of the participants, the events, and what they really mean.

Go start yourself a new thread and have at it, lad. Everything I know about this subject is that everybody thinks that everybody else is wrong sort of like the blind men describing an elephant

Sarge I would love to hear you wax lyrical on how somebody born in Canada to an American mother and a Cuban dad qualifies as a citizen. In my take parents citizenship has no bearing, its place of birth? How am I wrong on this ? God told me to ask this question ? PLEASE no one take offense at this am merely pokeing fun at the uptight and I don't mean you Sir.

Actually, the laws regarding citizenship by parentage are pretty straightforward, and protect both the child's right to US citizenship whilst borne overseas (for example of military mothers or parents, Foreign Service, evangelical, &c) and a child's citizenship claim to another country if borne in the USA of parents with citizenship in that other country under similar circumstances.

Being retired from both military and civil service, and having served this country overseas for extended periods, I have no problem with those laws.

The laws of the birth country also must be taken into consideration. For instance, my Grandson was born in Prague, Czech Republic, to his US Father and Thai Mother. So he has joint US and Thai citizenship, but not Czech citizenship.

Friends of mine (both US citizens) had a daughter in Austrailia. She had the option of choosing citizenship in either country at age 21.

Still burning a bit of wood most nights if only to clear out what I had stored in the garage and to eliminate the old kindling pile.

Looks like Thursday might finally be another rather nice day to skip on...

And then on to the gardens............

Same here...the wood-pile has taken a terrific beating over the past couple of weeks. What's the normal day-time temp this time of year around here? Upper-fifties? Could use a stretch of that...

Going up to 80 today and thunderstorms.
