Ah, the Hobo Jungle surfaces again, like the Giant Red Velvet Mite (Dinothrombium sp.) after a desert rain.

stronger than any love.
a body filled with
chaos, blood, soul
and dripping
red velvet tears.

That mite is a reminder (to me, at least) that it certainly is not humans - or even mammals - in fact, not even the whole Chordata phylum - that rule the Earth. It is insects & arachnids - included within Phylum Arthropoda - that own the Earth. Aside from the poles (N & S,) is there a single square inch on this planet that doesn't have them? Is a single tree, animal, or crop immune to their ravages? :( Is there a single dwelling w/out them? No.

Roger, 0.4 inch (10 mm.) Ordinary mites are 1/64 inch (0.4 mm.)

Murph, Humans have bugs beat, we inhabit the poles.

I even worked (here in the desert) with a young lady who had wintered over at the South Pole. Small World, isn't it? Maybe too small for us 7 billion humans on this planet. We even inhabited the Moon for a short time.

Jack, no, they do not taste like chicken! Don't try tasting them, they are nasty. I do not know this from personal experience. Biologists, curious as to why they are brilliant red, which attracts attention to themselves, yet have no known predators, have tasted them. The only bugs that taste worse are the colorful blister beetles, which leave blisters on the tongue.

As usual, Wayne, you make a good case. Ha-evah....what about by numbers? There must be 7billion of them per sq. mi. at least. They even inhabit intimate places ON us, at our north and south poles, to say the least! So, jus' 'cause we have made it to the poles and the moon doesn't mean we have dominated altogether. They go where they wanna. And which of us causes more destruction (now, there's a dubious agrument, huh)?

You have my sincerest wish that you continue to heal strong and well and that this coming winter eases up on you a bunch.

Thank you very much. I'm already back up to sub-normal; sleep is over-rated and back to work slogging onwards.... My 340th technical publication just came out in print and we submitted another manuscript to another journal today. Maybe we can make a difference some day? Maybe I can find a bit of a spark and get re-motivated before I throw the towel in and retire?
