Hobo Jungle
Re: Hobo Jungle
Murph, I just meant that I was surprised to realize it was HO. It was good enough to fool me into thinking it was O. Great sounds in HO now I guess. I modeled in HO back in the 70s. Did you know that? I still have about a dozen blue ribbons from two NMRA contests I entered. The first contest I won so many ribbons that the organizers gave my father and me two meal vouchers for the banquet. I suppose they didn't want to keep calling my name and find that I was headed back to Vermont. My dad was delighted since it was filet mignon. He was dead a few years later.

Yes Tramp, I understood your meaning.
And no, I did not know you were an accomplished HO modeler. It would be wonderful to see some photos, esp. if they were of you and your dad w/ some of those awards.
P.S. I still have a picture in my mind of your and Daisy's green passenger train on that handsome wide-plank floor in your home.

Re: Hobo Jungle
Murph, I don't suppose you have any old copies of the Narrow Gauge and Shortline Gazette hidden away. An amazing magazine if you've never seen it. I had a few things published during that time. Somewhere back in this Jungle there must be some photos, but no one should look through that mess. My modeling wasn't that great actually. I think I won because I scratch-built just about everything not having any money for modeling at the time. I've told the other hobos this story before, probably more than once, so I won't overly dip into the memories. Nice to see some of your modeling over here.

Have you seen this? It's an O-scale kit I banged together with a scratch-built outhouse by HirailJon.

After a year of not speaking to my father-in-law we finally buried the hatchet over a bottle of tequila!
Terrific shots, Murph!!!!!
Tramp, I remember the few photo's of your HO work you posted way back when and it was phenomenal!!!!

Hmmm......do you think it's big enough now? I'd consider hacking it up and making 2 camelbacks out of that one and set them to breeding up some little 0-4-0 and 0-6-0 camelbacks.
Just remember: what horses consider play, monkeys consider business, but to Tom it’s all foolery.
Re: Hobo Jungle
Tramp,
I think it is HO also based on the slow speeds.
I don't think that the sounds are as robust on this as the sounds on Jons.
Could be speaker size.Jons' locos have a much more realistic sound.IMHO.

Why not. It's back to the grind and sharpener tomorrow.
Jon, do you think Scott ever sells out of anything? Seems he keeps finding models in that magical warehouse of his. When I called Friday for a 2-rail Old Rivet, they said they had one left. Just "found" it that morning.

The wife and I have decided that I should build a shop in back and put an up stairs (man cave) in it for the Lionel stuff, tractors down stairs and I'm thinking about G in the back yard.
Any suggestions on control systems?,,what NOT to do in actual layout,,stuff like that,,,

Re: Hobo Jungle
Dennis, Where are the photos you promised the hobos? You said you had some of the greatest model photos ever taken just for us. I don't know about the rest of the crew, but I'm ready to see them.

Greetings fellow hobo's!!!!!!
Tramp, from the looks of the pictures I've seen posted the GG-1 is one stunning model! I'm sure we won't be dissapointed! I'm rather surprised in your purchase of one, I always figured you to be a black-boiled-steam-engine-only-kinda-fella!
Did you say you purchased a 2-Rail unit?
Penn, Two very important lessons to consider!
1. Make sure you figure out what type engine you want to run because just like O-gauge track, G-scale track comes in different sized curves!
2. Don't skimp on your transformer! I went with a more expensive Bridgewerks 10 amp transformer and she'll handle just about anything!

Fellow Hobos... ---WARNING---
Do you use re-chargable batteries? This battery charger, the Energizer DUO, can display charge information on your computer. "Cool," huh?
Unfortunately the software contains a trojan. Homeland Security has been advised.
