Re: FEF Project...Many Questions and Photos over time
I find myself wondering if CLW could cast you a new dome? I think one came with my SC/CLW Northern kit. I haven't seen it in decades, but if it shows up it is yours. I have four FEFs. You have seen them all in my UP steam thread. Union Pacific Vol 2 page 8. Prior photos seem to be "unlinked.&qu...

Re: C&NW and Erie Steam Power
Nice models! I am currently stuck - kinda like writer's block - on the piping. I have washouts and lag clamps installed, and debating on whether to add boiler steps, but I am trying to get to the simple stuff - a few sander lines and the starter out of the turret. Holes are drilled - I have no idea ...

Yep. Tried again - PM system says message accepted, but it doesn't show up in "sent."
I sent the multiple views in an e-mail to martinwb - it bounced back. If you either shoot me an e-mail, or disguise your e-mail here, or try a PM, I will get the pictures off to you.

Re: We've been workin' on a Railroad...
I haven't been working on the railroad - these are the only "scenery" I have, as you might have noticed from the Youtube clip. They are from the collection of Bud Cantlay (RIP) and have two decades of dust on their roofs. It is possible that they are the sought-after "Model Structures...

Re: A new PA in town
The brass Sunset PAs look great. I captured a photo of a nickel plated version off an eBay ad. Best way to ascertain faithfulness is to buy a current production Lionel body and compare. I don't know how they did it, but the Lionel version comes closest to all the photo evidence we have. MTH and Key ...

Re: ATSF Steam 2023 1/2
I never answered SW - the box car is Athearn O Scale - Trucks are Athearn die cast, but with machined steel bolsters. High School machining project - used a giant mill. Back to the ATSF Steam - I brought the Mountain home a couple days ago, machined some brass to widen the running boards, and added ...

Re: MG versus USH tender wheel material
NWSL wheels are steel. I know I am repeating myself, but I have found that steel or iron is the only material for O Scale wheels or drivers. Brass gathers crud, and die cast is worse. I have had brass wheels derail themselves due to crud thicker than the flange! Mort and I did a study decades ago on...

Re: Ebay
They do not have a monthly fee, and will find the cheapest way. You just tap on the version you want, print a label, and take it to the postal annex store. They then give it to USPS or UPS or FedEx, depending on what you selected. I think I mentioned Gersh's Challenger - $70 to get here, $23 to ship...

Re: Mongrel Mogul
No - the above model in your post is a good scratchbuilt, I think. The Lobaugh Mongrel Mogul was merely an SP switcher with a different pilot, cylinders, and one fewer domes. I don't think it was a good seller - I have only seen one. There exist many preserved Moguls - I think SP preserved maybe six...

Re: Tonight's entertainment
It is the gearbox ratios - The effect is really subtle, but periodic. You cannot see the periodicity unless it is pointed out - like Jim expertly did. There is a certain amount of joy in seeing an articulated mechanism smoothly glide through horrible trackwork and too much superelevation. The loops ...

Bob's Locomotives on Youtube!
Courtesy of Maroon, who did all of the editing and half the filming. He did all of the gathering of the videos and the setting up of the You Tube channel. He is guiding me through the process, so someday I may be able to regale you often, as does Carey. I, of course, did all of the locomotives and b...

Re: Alco PA and FA 2023
Always remember - keep the torch flame on the casting, never the sheet metal. These are tough to do unless you are happy with sides without any details, like rivet strips and window frames. If you are happy with that, then just screw the sides on, and fill the screw heads with putty.

Re: Union Pacific vol 2
Bump. A lot of photos have gone missing from this thread. The ones that survive are posted by 86TA355SR. So my question: Who is your source - your host - for these fine photos? This one was my last post to the Lobaugh Challenger thread: https://uniim1.shutterfly.com/render/00-PNsoTmjg5ERwYdyJK2nnTU4...
