I've heard of the vinegar soak method but I'm still concerned about damaging the paper insulators. I'll try soaking just the top half of the rails ...

Does anyone have experience cleaning dirty, somewhat rusty Lionel tubular track with an untrasonic cleaner? I figure if anyone has used one it would be you guys. I'm wondering if the paper board insulators would disintegrate. Any recommendations to offer on the subject would be appreciated.

There's a live steam club about an hour from me. One of the members built his own coal-fired steam locomotive. He thought it was messy and took too long to fire up so he converted it to propane, concealing the tank in a box car behind the tender.

And look! They had Dollar Tree stores back then.
